He better be able to back that up or Gaetz is going to join the defamation club along with Fox News, the pillow guy, etc. That's a very specific factual allegation.

Yep, was thinking the same thing, that this guy McGee - who is not even a public figure - would have an excellent defamation claim.

I think the elder Gaetz knows this is a lie and is wary of putting his own reputation on the line. McGee says the elder Gaetz "reached out" to him, likely to get information on the investigation of his son. I think that daddy Gaetz told his son about this conversation, and from there Gaetz concocted the entire story of extortion.

If the dad does come out and corroborate his son's story, then someone should check the phone records. If the elder Gaetz initiated the call (assuming it was a call), then it's highly unlikely he got blackmailed during the conversation.

Well, if Gaetz had credibility to start with...

And think about it: if Gaetz is making this up, he's throwing his own father under the bus to a degree — either he turns on his own son or has to play along with the ruse.

Yeah, I suspect he intends to just keep his mouth shut. It's logically what he would do having been placed in that situation by his son.

If this McGee decides to sue for defamation though, then his father would have to be deposed. That's where it would get really interesting.

Earlier I read a sad quote from the McGee guy saying.
If there is a tape please release it, all I did was have a conversation with a Father who is worried for his Son.

Gaetz has always come across as a fundamentally stupid person who got where he is in life because his dad helped him. Considering the seriousness of the charges he's facing if he had a brain in his head he would shut up. Claiming he's the victim of a malicious plot isn't going to help him anymore as Trump isn't in office to pardon him.

So I'd guess that the House reps most supportive of Donald Trump are: Devin Nunes, Jim Jordan, Chris Collins (first member to endorse Trump/worked on his transition team) and Matt Gaetz.

Nunes: fed information to the White House while sitting on the committee investigating Trump, failed to identify his own contacts with Parnas and Fruhman while witnesses were being questioned about those men by members of his committee, knowingly introduced propaganda from a Russian intelligence source into committee hearings. And more.

Jordan: ignored the reports of at least 8 wrestlers who told him they were molested by a team doctor. Now falsely denies this.

Chris Collins: had to resign after pleading guilty to insider trading.

Gaetz: accused of statutory rape and sex trafficking. Appears to have manufactured a false story, defaming a former federal prosecutor.

See the pattern here? If you want to know who is an unethical criminal, just look at who supports Trump the loudest.

The moment Trump stepped into office, they were drawn to him likes flies buzzing around shit.

His behavior is indeed stupid, and in a very Trumpian way. Would Trump keep his mouth shut? Hell no! He'd falsely claim he was a victim of a conspiracy. Because these people think the same way. They know their far right supporters will believe them, and that makes them feel better, regardless of the ultimate legal consequences.

Honestly, after the whole secretly adopting a teenage boy thing, the only thing that surprises me here is the word “girl”.

An organized criminal extortion seeking $25 million. That seems pretty likely. Dennis Hastert was blackmailed. He was also guilty as hell. Hard to blackmail somebody who isn’t guilty of something.

It also seems like a pretty unlikely thing to completely make up and then get away with. Made up or not it definitely doesn’t make him sound less guilty. I mean seriously why would someone make up something and say “I’m going blackmail you with this lie I just made up we both know is false. And as you’re just a powerful politician with lots of contacts, who is the golden boy of the Trump administration, there is nothing you can do about it!”

Good point. His story is "pay me $25 million and I'll make this false, unprovable accusation go away."

It's all bullshit anyway. There was no blackmail. I guaranty it.

He's keeping the world safe from Marxists, so it's all good.
For them it is - conservatives in the US don’t have policy goals anymore, it’s just culture war centered around hating liberals. Since elected Republican officials don’t really have to deliver on anything or accomplish anything they are free to elect clowns like Gaetz, Cawthorn, and Greene.

Theres definitely something fishy here - could be both sides that are guilty of something.

When your homies are corned with overwhelming evidence, resort to #bothsides. That the sign Gaetz is cooked.

BTW - Looks like Matty Ice may have had an accomplice...

DOJ investigates whether Rep. Matt Gaetz had relationship with teen (usatoday.com)
According to Times sources, the investigation into Gaetz is part of a broader probe into Joel Greenberg, a former Seminole County, Florida, tax collector and an acquaintance of Gaetz. Greenberg is facing charges that include child sex trafficking and pleaded not guilty. Gaetz and Greenberg have been pictured together, and Gaetz expressed support for Greenberg as tax collector.
