Max file size on a DVD?

Hi Everyone,

I've been trying my Pioneer DVD-R/RW. I tried putting a 1 GB mpeg file onto a RW disc using Easy CD-Creator 5.0, and it trashed the disc, making it unusable. However, I have been able to write, rewrite, and delete smaller files on discs without a problem.

Is there a max file size for DVD-R/RW? Thanks!

File size shouldn't matter. Perhaps the disc itself wasn't good? Or maybe just doesn't work well with your burner? The Pioneers can be fickle when it comes to media. Other than that, I can't think of a reason why a GB file would make any difference.

You should be able to write a 4.7gb file if you really wanted to without a problem.

As vetteguy said, its most likely a bad disc, or your drive just didnt like the media.

What brand (If any) were you trying?

it says 4.7 but just like HD's it's not the actualy size.

I am pretty sure the actualy max size is 4.37

i would think you would be limited on file size in 3 areas: the disc capacity, burning software, and your o/s. for most of us, i think the first 2 would be the real determining factors. o/s is more a theoretical thing--the 32 bit versions of windows can handle files bigger than the current capacity on a dvd.

Hrm...the DVD-writer could recognize the disc fine, and it wrote the file...but on closing it gave me an error and trashed the disc. Maybe it's Easy CD Creator. I'm a but gun-shy about testing it though, since DVD-RW discs are a bit pricey for coasters.

I have a Pioneer Burner also. The Model is A05 but anyway, it's fine. I copy CDs and DVD-R just fine. I have a feeling that it's your Easy CD creator. I known some ppl have proble mwith that software. I am using Nero. It suck that we can't burn 2 layers like all other DVDs.

I have the A05 as well. Have you tried burning very large files (like 1 GB) with Nero? Thanks!

Why not do a simulation?

If a simulation works fine, there should be no reason for a proper burn not to?!

Sounds like Easy CD, ive stuck with Nero since it first came out, get nero

I think I read that SP1 for XP trashed EasyCDs ability to handle large files and that it's fixed with the latest updates to EasyCD, which you can get from their website.
roxio updates
Update for the basic version is at bottom of page.

dump Nero and Easy cd Creator and start using Record Now Max for DVD's ( IFO \ Vob's) DVD decrypter for ISO's, both create very compadible DVD's. Also start taking care of those dual Layers with DVD2DVDR and CCE.
