Hopefully Nvidia works on the scaling for MP2, as my 4 680s only see moderate usage in BF3. Most other games fail to make use of 2 of them, much less 4. And yes, I'm running high res with a 3930K @ 4.7ghz, so thats not it ;x

Are you running them at PCIe 3.0? It requires a registry hack to get it to work with a X79 board.

I have just moved house and have gone from a 50mbit cable connection to a 15mbit adsl one. I was wondering if I really needed 50mbit, that was until I saw the download size of Max Payne 3! 30gb! I wonder how large Doom 4 will be on Steam.

As for the game, I am glad that it is one that starts to push the hardware requirements of the PC hardware, not just gfx wise but memory wise as well. I have never played any of the Max Payne games and am looking forward to trying it out.

Think how I felt when I moved to a house in a village where I had to share a 5.8Mbit-6.5Mbit connection with 3-4 other people - one of which streams HD content most of the day [not a problem - I do the same! ]

Although I've been lucky enough to have a kind parent who has bought me my own line. 6.9Mbit-7.3Mbit [advertised at a max. of 8]

I'm just glad I didn't use my ssd for games, I just use it for os and applicaitons. Rage and Max Payne 3 popping 50gb just between the two of them and newer games are likely to be larger. I still think there is a lot of life in hard drives with such large games comming out.

In my opinion, I think it depends on the game and if it benefits from SSDs.
I also believe that there is a second level to it - that even if it [the game] benefits from an SSD, are the load times long enough for it to be worthwhile to load faster? [e.g. if the load times are already 3 seconds, do they need to be 1-2 seconds? -?> (obvious) if the load time is 30 seconds a lot [Portal 2 as an example], is it worthwhile to have the load times being 5 seconds?]

I'm on SSD, the only real difference regarding capacity is if I had a HDD I'd install the game, play it, forget about it and download the next game. With the SSD i remove the game when I'm done with it. There's a handful if games I revisit like BF3, COD, and a couple racing games that stay on there but games like MP3, Crysis, Batman, Assassins Creed, Mass Effect are a one time run through for me so space really hasn't been an issue, by the time it does become one for me, SSDs will be cheaper and larger in capacity.

I can confirm that Radeon 6950's have no trouble with the game. Once i finally got it running, MP3 plays smooth a silk.

Turns out Bitdefender does not play nice with MP3 even if you set exceptions for it to ignore the game and steam. In order to play the game i have to enter services.msc (in safe mode) and disable bit defender. Its a pain in the A$$... but at least the game no longer runs like a slide show.

EDIT: if anyone wants, or knows anyone who wants an MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III, i've got one for sale. The only game that really makes use of Crossfire is Crysis 1... most everything else plays just fine with on Radeon 6950.

I move games over and then when I'm all done with 'em, they get put back on my HDD.

I rarely play games these days, just have 3 games installed ATM, Diablo 3, Max Payne 3 and Dirt Showdown. When I am done with any of them, I will just delete them. My steam folder is on the 1.5TB drive though.

Runs like a charm at these settings, FRAPS works flawlessly as well:
25x14
Everything VHigh/Max
No FXAA
No MSAA
AF MAX

I typically get 80-120 FPS average and the minimum is usually in 60s-80s

Can't ask for more.

This is of course with my 7970 at 1175 1550. With stock I would probably get about 20 FPS less

Anyway, pretty awesome

Yes, graphically this game works nicely. But the mouse issues are killing my experience.

Whoa... The game seems very GPU bound. 3770K from 2.5GHz to 4.5GHz... frame rates are the same at 1920x1080.

They tested CPU performance during a cut scene. It's actually pathetic that you can be that incompetent and still write for a tech site. Test it again when Max Payne is shooting up half the level and then we can see some meaningful numbers.

Hmmm, I didn't notice that when I posted the link. Definitely a weak test of CPU scaling.

With an OC on that 8150 is would be up at the top of the pile LOL everyone knows you have to OC a Bulldozer for it to perform don't judge it based on it stock performance.

Yeah cuz none of the other processors can OC, particularly the K series right? sorry stock is exactly how it sold be judged. 2 additional cores and a higher clock speed and being out performed by the X6.... Never mind the Intel CPUs

A CPU will not make the game get more frames per second period and all the OCing on the AMD CPUs will do is alleviate the bottle neck and put it back onto the GPU where you want it to be. You will not see much more if any frame rates if you are OCing the Intel 2600K because it is already feeding the GPU to the max. The 8150 should catch up to the stock clocked 2600K in this game when it is OCed to around 4.5Ghz or more.
