With that much ram don't even worry about it man. If you want the best performance for day to day use then go into system in the control panel and then performance and turn off all that bs in there. Even without doing that though with that much ram your not going to be having any slow down problems or shortages of resources.

So XP knows how to use all of the memory avaliable to it? With 98 you had to change it from "desktop computer" to "network server" and even anything over 256megs was overkill. 98 even had problems with more than 512 megs.

How do you really feel about it?

Xp does a good job of memory management on its own (as good as anything else MS has produced).

I have 256 of Ram right now but I hear that the increase of performance seen from 256MB to 512MB is worth the upgrade in RAM in Windows XP. What you guys think?

I've got 512MB and when I openned every Program/App on my computer (26 at that time) my Ram was still at 32% free!!

Maximum PC did some benchmarks with XP and increasing amounts of ram for different applications.
Basically if you are doing photo, video, or audio editing with very large files, going from 256 to 512 helps with rendering time.
It had no effect in their Quake 3 demo test.
512 is worth it depending on the apps you use.

<< BTW- MemoryBoost Pro can recuperate RAM and it also lets you monitor your free RAM in your sytem tray. >>

arghh ... used to have 128MB, then WinME ... ok ...

so i got 128MB more and then WinME became boring ... just reboot and then a ~200MB swap file ... i tried some of this mem menaging apps ...

all i got was make me loose 3 cd's ... when burning ... it got all cpu time to "clean" the main mem ... and this "cleaning" was just to send all to a damn swap file ... ( just what i'd like it not to do )

so what ?????

i installed Wkn2k and for the very first time in my life ... i could say M$ did something about to be good ... XP is win2k with very much ( heavy ) eyecandy ... i just use it cause win2k damages my HD in his lightspeed shutdowns ...

if there is a SP3 and this is fixed ... i'm back to the year 2000 !!!
