Maximum PC Article: "Very Bad Things"

This article in the latest issue cracked me up. They do a whole bunch of silly things to electrical equipment - like put stickers on a CDROM and then put it in a 50x CDROM (>10,000rpm), and wash a laptop in the kitchen sink. Personally I think it was the Jar-Jar Binks sticker that did in the 50x CDROM. Waste of a lot of equipment, but a funny article.

If you are wandering around Borders (or your local equivalent) and you see one without the shrink-wrap, it's worth a peek.

Maximumpc is the only real computer magazine out there (though they are on a bit of a down turn). If you subscribe to anything, this should be it.

Yeah, I just read that the other day. I love this magazine. Its so much better then PcWorld. The only better magazine would be Anandtech Magazine...wouldnt that be cool!

Maximum PC = Maximum Waste of my time and $$$

1) Why pay for the mag when the information is readily available on the web and for free (well, for the most part) from credible websites like Anandtech, Ace's Hardware, GamePC, Tom's Hardware, etc, etc.?

2) Why waste my time reading the reviews (don't even get me started on the Celeron vs Duron article from a while back) that are weeks old and tired by the time the issue hits the stands?

3) Computer hardware news is updated daily, and they are always behind.

4) If I want humour, I'll read HardOCP

Well, until they make that Bathroom PC (which is discussed in this thread), magazines will have a place in my home.

NFS4, I agree with what you say about magazines, however, some people do not always have internet available to them.

For example, if I go for a long drive, and Iam not driving, I enjoy reading computer magazines.

But, that's basicly the ONLY thing magazines have over web reviews.

oh wow, I've found someone else who takes their computer magazines to the toilet! I read mine in the bath too. this is kind of hard to do with a laptop.

I've got one of thoes wireless LAN thingies (RadioLAN), but it toally blows, it won't work though the foot of wall between the toilet and the repeater :disgust:, so MaxPC and PC gamer are the only thing I have when I'm sealed off from the outside world .

aww... I came in here thinking it was something to do with the movie.

My cousin reads something that likes to call itself a &quot;pc magazine&quot; but falls incredibly short. Up until a few months ago, it was raving the best videocard to be a Matrox400

Yea, you can get the info on the WEB but the Magazine still kicks ass, and like these guys said, you don't always have a PC around to go online. NFS4, I bet that PDA and Internet Access isn't real cheap either, as far as I'm concernced its a waste of $$$$

Juno is free considering I have the DUN hack And with my wireless LAN setup, I can get broadband to my iPAQ.

Max PC is so retarded...It's written for people with a Kyle Bennet mentality, which isn't too great BTW. You wouldn't even find it in my bathroom...it's far too uncomfortable to wipe with.
