Maximum resolution of video cards...

Can someone explain to me why maximum video resolutions are different between CRTs and LCDs? I never knew this...

ATI RADEON 7000 Graphics Card display resolutions

CRT DISPLAY Resolution 2048x1536
DIGITAL DISPLAY Resolution 1600x1200

That was probably due to CRT having VGA and "Digital Display" meant DVI.

Or LCD's didn't have a higher resolution back then because that was 10 years ago...

So, I would have to buy a newer AGP video card? Seems like an oxymoron I know.

lol, was there any lcd larger than 1600x1200 when an ATI 7000 series came out in 2002?

Says right there in the tech specs, the RAMDAC runs at 300MHZ (2048*1536*1.4*60=264) and single link DVI is 165MHZ (1600*1200*1.4*60=161) but that's with blanking which isn't needed for DVI. I guess its possible that card can't disable blanking though.
