The deal wasn't over. Best Buy just kept changing the price and the rebates. All the vultures just wanted to get the best possible deal that they could. Bunch of Vultures? We're not after dead stuff, just nearly free or FAR.

what was the link exactly? if it was an image, next time you should consider using of the the many picture hosting sites that a few AT members run.

you have to realize that this place gets ALOT of traffic. what do you mean your account got dropped?

The BestBuy I went to still have the $59.99 AR sign, so me and a friend got 1 each and went to the checkout. 2 $30 rebates printed out instead of a $30 and $40, so the 3 of us walked back there so she could see grab the sign and they gave us back $10 to our credit cards. So now I paid $120+tax for the drive and can I still send in the $50 rebate form I printed instead of the $30? That would make it $50 AR's for me and my friend. Should I take the chance?

As I had mentioned in the prior, censored thread. Look at the bottom of that bloody $50 rebate and you will see the words "Rebate valid for online purchases only." It says that on the bottom of every Bestbuy.com rebate form. If you want to take the chance sending your original UPC in with a rebate form that has that statement clearly printed on the bottom and forfeit a potentially legitimate rebate then you, my friend, are mad. Especially considering that this is their stated policy and they have never approved such a thing in the past. That $50 rebate form with your UPC will get filed in the waste-bin.

Due to the thread being deleted, I didn't see your previous post, so don't give me any crap about it. I will look over the rebate form again though. Thanks for the *KIND* advice. 50cents a gig is still a pretty good deal.

Well actually, the BB rebate only requires a copy of the UPC. So you could send in the $50 rebate with a copy of UPC, and then send in the $30 BB rebate with a copy of UPC. I'm just debating whether to do it or not. I already sent in the $50 BB rebate because in the original thread there were at least two people who said they spoke with someone at the rebate center on the phone, and confirmed that the $50 rebate would in fact work.

What harm could come from sending in the $30 rebate a day later? Besides of course getting $20 less. They would have to honor at least one, right?

No, they can deny them all because you sent too many rebates in. You are just giving them a clear out, and I bet they take it. They will deny VALID rebates, so you think they will pick and choose what you send in? Rebate companies are scum, bottom feeders, and they know it, everybody else knows it, so therefore they could care less.

Well the $30 BB rebate has until 8/19 to be postmarked, so I can wait a few weeks and give the rebate center a call and hopefully be able to determine if the $50 rebate was rejected/received/processed and then decide whether to send it in.

If you bought in-store, they will probably only accept the rebates that printed out with your purchase. If you bought on-line, there may be more leeway. I am going to bring my two drives back and get a refund, because I am sick of this bullshit.

Here is what I think the story of the price and rebate.
1. In Sunday' ads, it shows the drive is $159.99-$60MIR-$20MIR. So that is $159.99-$80MIR. The store price is actually $149.99 and the Maxtor rebate is $30, so BB offer a $40 rebate to make it $149.99-$70 MIR to match the ads price.
2. And then BB tried to match Staples's $129.99 price on Wednesday, then here came the first deal for $129.99-$70 MIR=$59.99
3. Later, maybe someone works for BB website tried to match the $80MIR in Sunday's ads. With the Maxtor $30 MIR, BB then offered the $50 MIR on the web, make the deal hotter for $129.99-$80MIR= $49.99
4. And then, the website guy thought the price is too low, he then explained the $129.99 price is $149.99-$20IR. So the $80 MIR in the ads is like $30 MIR+$30MIR+$20IR. So the deal now is $149.99-$20IR-$30MIR-$30MIR.

My concern is, the three $30,$40,$50 rebates have the same rebate number #37772. I am worried that even using the $40 store print-out rebate form will be honored for $30 only.

As far as sending in the $50 rebate printed from the website, before they replaced it with the $30 one, they had "(Store Only)" next to the rebate. So in the terms of the rebate where it states "BestBuy.com rebates are valid with online purchases only," makes no sense at all.

The $30 rebate that's on the website right now says the exact same thing. It has (Store Only) next to the rebate link, and in the rebate TOC it states that "BestBuy.com rebates are valid with online purchases only."

I hope this isn't considered a brag, but I bought the hard drive the week before (July 05) $159.99-$60MIR-$20MIR=$79.99. Took my reciept to the register and they gave me the new shelf price of $129.99. So I guess that's $49.99 after rebates. So if you were lucky enough to get in on this early, an all legit price of $50.00 (assuming both rebates go through). I even got offered the new rebate forms but no sense in trying to scam a company that's giving you a hard drive for less than $0.50/GB

Well just for the record, Best Buy did honor the $50 rebate that was printed out from their website. I got my check a couple days ago. I bought the HD in-store, also.
