You don't get a confirmation number for the price match. Which is what I think he meant.

You get an order number of course...

Will they charge you for $120 before they ship the drive because I would like to order using my paypal acct. with $99 in it so I want to make sure that I can pricematch before they can charge me the full amount. BTW...the drive is OOS at BB. Have any of you had luck ordering while it is OOS?

usually they won't pricematch if its out of stock
try calling your local BB's and see if there are any. The website is not accurate

Yes they charge the $120 initialy, then they give you the price difference in a payment to your credit card.

Just finish doing the PM on theMaxtor 120GB I brought last night, since Bestbuy.com is OOS I give the CSR a phone to a local BB store and the PM went through without a problem.

Even Better Deal!!!! I found out today that Staples will honor the 100gig + 20 $30 mail-in rebate (for Staples.com ONLY) on this drive, you can find the rebate coupon at rebateshq.com:

http://rebateshq.com/weblogic/rebateshq/parago/viewPromotionDetails?prID=42035&bundleId=257228&promoCd=03-56390

So if you thought you got a good deal before, mail this sucker in!!! I had purchased my drive at B&M, so I went back and complained to the manager, and he basically gave me another $20 off by returning the drive from the first transaction, and then just ringing the drive up for $73.38, including tax!

Perhaps this thread should be renamed the "Incredible shrinking price on...."?

Well I tried two different CSR's, both just wanted to match the BB price -after- they took my 30 off 150, so that brought the price back up to around $120 or so with tax etc, not worth it. I'm never able to get the gullible CSR's!

When I was trying to reduce the amount I paid (I only used the 20 off of 100, not the 30 off of 150) by ordering on-line, they gave me the PM for the $20 instant rebate, but told me that they (rebateshq, i.e. Maxtor) will be honoring this rebate on this 120 gig drive. I got the impression that so many people (AT'er, most likely) were asking them to PM BB's AR price, they decided to go the $30 rebate route as well. For those who had already ordered on-line and got a great deal, the 39 cent investment in a stamp seems worthwhile if you may get $30 back.

But I'd bought my drive in store, and as the rebate is Staples.com only, my store manager made the difference up for me. But you could check by calling the 888 number listed on the rebate form to see if the rebate folks also say this is the case.

I just got off the phone with a CSR because they said they wouldn't pricematch the $30 rebate from BB because they also have a $30 rebate. I told the CSR that the rebate was for the 100gb + 20gb drive (L01J100) not the 120gb drive (L01P120). After speaking with a supervisor, she gave me an additonal $43.XX credit. The total should now be roughly $76 before taxes.

Ordered mine today. Will arrive Friday!!! This is a very cool price!

I did have to use the $20 off $100 coupon because the price went down. At first they wouldn't do PM because BB online said OOS, but I called back with local numbers and they gave the PM, they didn't even call. In my case the local BB actually DID have the drive, but they didn't check at all, so give it a shot folks.

-Side note, the CSR I had the first time who wouldn't do the PM offered the $30 rebate for the 100+20 drive, so they may really be applying that rebate to these drives. It might be worth a shot. $83 was a great deal, $53 would be just nuts!

That's what I'm saying. I wish I'd bought on-line just for the shot at the extra money back. But the $73 and change I paid is still an exceptional deal, particularly at a B&M. The manager at my local Staples crys when I walk into the store, that's for sure.

It does say "fluid dymanic bearings" on the box, but every DiamondMax Plus 9 drive has that in it's specs. They are all Boxed Retail product, which can be purchased at Compusa, Office Depot or even Fry's, and comes with a 3 year warrenty. As opposed to "Bare drive" deals, which are 1 year warrenty.
