This Maxtor drive seems to be on sale every other week or so, but this may be the best deal to date. Office Depot has the Maxtor 120GB 8 MB cache drive for $110 with a $30 Maxtor MIR. There are a couple of $20 off $100 coupons floating around that you could use to bring this down to $60 plus tax on the original $110 price before discount coupon and rebate. So if you can't figure out how to find and use a coupon, or if doing all that is just too much 'jumping through hoops' for you, then this deal just isn't for you , and you should look elsewhere. And you get to keep your amateur shopper status.

Nice repost from chubby.

However the AT folks will want in on this, just seems poor manners not to credit. In the unlikely event you just came up with this 10 mins after it was posted on chubby then I apoligise for my presumption.

The pre-rebate price will be ~$90 depending on your state tax.

Best regards

Pretty good deal, 50 cents a gig

I did the same thing except with a 160gb drive for $80 about two weeks ago. Same gig ratio, and I was pretty much guaranteed to get 80gb platters in my drive.

Also look out for couponing a OfficeMax 40 or 120 drive to uber low prices in the next few weeks.

If all you need is a small drive, they can possibly be free. WD400BB for free last week.

As for coupons? This is a computer related forum, and as such, we can try to help all in finding good deals.

Sorry, not my original idea for conveying information in this dot com world

I didn't rip this off from anywhere. I have not visited chubby today, but I was at an Office Depot store today and saw this. I searched this forum to see if this deal had been posted so I would avoid reposting if someone else had already posted. Excuse me if I didn't realize we now have to check to see if a deal has been posted elsewhere on the Internet before posting here. BTW why don't you go back to chubby and kiss my grits. I guess presuming is slightly different than assuming in that you have only made an a$$ out of yourself. Goodbye and have a nice life.

Thanks, ordered one for store pickup.

$ 109.84 - $20 off $100 coupon + 8.5% tax = $97.48 + $.37 stamp - $ 30 MIR = $67.85 - final cost. $0.57/GB.

Finding the right coupon can be a chore sometimes especially when you have already tried one and it failed. At times it may be necessary to clear your cookies before you try again. I recently got the 160GB drive from Office Depot and was able to successfully use one. It was a little trouble to find a store that had it in stock, but I managed to locate one in a nearby city that I visit sometimes anyway. I picked it up instore after ordering online.

Deal looks dead now, it's coming up $149.84 before coupon and rebate for me. Was going to jump on this one too, maybe I'll have to do the BB 160 gig instead now.

Ya know I was actually being polite. I even apoligised if I was wrong. My point was it is good manners to giving credit where credit may be due.
However your reply clearly indicates that manners do not concern you at all. I guess i should not be surprised.

Best regards

P.S.-For your edification so that you are clear on the definition of presume and do not have to guess what presume means.

Presume
(v. i.) To suppose or assume something to be, or to be true, on grounds deemed valid, though not amounting to proof; to believe by anticipation; to infer; as, we may presume too far.
(v. i.) To venture, go, or act, by an assumption of leave or authority not granted; to go beyond what is warranted by the circumstances of the case; to venture beyond license; to take liberties; -- often with on or upon before the ground of confidence.
(v. t.) To assume or take beforehand; esp., to do or undertake without leave or authority previously obtained.
(v. t.) To take or suppose to be true, or entitled to belief, without examination or proof, or on the strength of probability; to take for granted; to infer; to suppose.

I got this drive a while back from OM. Man, it's LOUD. I ended up putting my 20GB Maxtor back in. I guess fluid bearings does make a big difference.

Edit: Checked the noise spec on the OM 120GB WD, and it's the same as the WD400BB (35dB idle).

You know you weren't actually being polite. Accusing me of having bad manners is like the pot calling the kettle black. You accused me without any knowledge on your part of whether I had ripped off this deal elsewhere and posted it here. Accusing someone of ripping something off and also failing to give proper credit, and then apologizing if you happen to be wrong in the same breath. Go to charm school yourself AH.

lol, to me these FDB motors are not quiet but to some they are dead silent. Kinda weird to me. My computer is more silent so I can acctually hear my hd work everytime i do something with my Maxtor.

I think there is a utility to get the slapping sound during seeks to diminish. Also you could try encasing the drive in a rubber box (see silentpcreview.com)

My Maxtor 120 was pretty noisy after first installing it, but after three or four weeks it had quietened down. Now I only hear case fans so if it's a new drive you might give it some time. I recently purcahsed the Maxtor 160 and it was quiet out of the box. The 120 is definitely the faster drive though.

my 160 Maxtor 8mb is rather noisy. may be i will give 2-3 weeks for me to get used to the noise.

its compare to the 80WD SE i had before.

i part it out to 4 partitions and one large folder in the 3 rd partition give me a 2 seconds delay to display the content when i open it up at explorer. (never happen before for the WD 80G SE with 1 partition.)
not sure if its XP problem or the HD is slow...

If this was a deal, I'd say put it in its own thread but when I go to OfficeMax's online store I only see a 60GB HD. Too bad how sad.

OOS in your area. You can try changing store locations. I was able to do this recently and found the Maxtor 160 in stock at one of two stores in a city 40 miles from me.
