Maxtor 160GB 8MB Hard Drive $70 + tax (no rebate) at Office Depot

Are any of you that are getting the hd that has cr*p packaging having a problem with the hd? I once made a purchase from an online company for a dvd home deck recorder that was sent in the manufacturer box....no double packaging. The box wasn't in the best of condition and i never even opened the box to try the unit out. Instead, i contacted them and told them i wasn't happy that it wasn't double boxed and the box looked a little beat up. They said they must have not had a box big enough....and this is a major computer internet company! They sent ups to pick it up and i got my credit adjusted. I can understand some items not being double boxed or packed well...like maybe a ups surge device, but a hd and a dvd recorder (that has a sensitive laser) should be.

I called in and the CSR took a few minutes to talk to a manager about what happened and came back offering to reorder at 69.97 + tax. Of course I accepted and she informed me the drive would be delivered tomorrow.

I didn't say anything about anything when I called. I just asked her to explain what the status was. She did all the rest and made me a happy boy

sounds like the CSR experience is a YMMV on this one.

Got the HDD today. Same deal with the crappy packaging, no cushions, just the HDD box in a cardboad box twice its size. On my invoice it said $109-$40=$69, and the $40 was marked as "low price guarantee."

HDD works fine for me. Installed it in a removable/mobile rack, quick format and already used 28 GB (DVD backup). I just don't understand why the warranty is only one (1) year.

Most harddrives have backed away from 3 year warrantys.
Maxtor is just following suit.

Well, mine was a big box, a hard drive, a tv, and one plastic pillow.

But I'm not complaining - I GOT this deal, no rebates $75 total.

It all works, so I have no reason to complain. And I knew it would only be one year warranty.

Got my 2nd HD today!!! Funny thing is that it was "lost" in shipping.... then they called and told me it would be delivered today and it was.....but no shipping box.....just hand delivered in the retail box.....cha ching

I just looked at my Friday paper and the deal is good today only Saturday March 27 at all of the Nashville TN office depot's. It is a Grand opening special. Hurry - less than three hours left.

how can I make this deal work again? I tried the $80 coupon and it was obviously expired, but I need this hard drive for this price! I'm willing to pay a little more for 200GB just as long as the price/GB ratio is similar to this deal. Anandtech, PLEASE help me!

Deal is over, you cant get it at this price, best to look to the search feature for other similar deals, but its rare you see something this good without a rebate.
