Maxtor 200G EIDE HDD $84.00 AR (+tax on $144.00) Compusa

I posted this inside the other Compusa deals thread for their weekly specials, but I suppose it deserves its own thread.

Compusa.com has the Maxtor 200Gig EIDE Hard Drive on sale on its website for $159.99 with a $60.00 compusa rebate.

I just received an email from them for a 10% off coupon (that calls itself the June 13th 10% off coupon), which is valid until 6/19/04. When you add the coupon code (check your favorite coupon sites), it takes 10% off your highest priced item, which in this case takes $16.00 off.

You then have 2 choices: pay $5.00 for ground shipping, or add back $6.02 worth of other items to your cart (I added a couple of fans) to get back over $150.00 and qualify for "penny shipping" which should be automatically computed by the cart.

In my case, after rebate and taxes, along with my $7.00 worth of computer fans, it cost me about $97.00 After rebate for the drive. Not bad.

The current coupon I can find for this week is 15% off but it doesn't work on this deal.

UPDATE -- Compusa has changed the drive to "Generic," but the rest of the deal seems to remain the same... same speed, buffer, etc. so far as I can tell.

To whom this may interest:

A company that fulfills CompUSA rebates, Global Fulfillment Services (www.web-rebates.com), is denying rebate checks on this offer (CompUSA Offer #0009969) if one submitted with the rebate form a CompUSA sales receipt instead of the Packing List/Slip shipped with the order.

That will probably affect a lot of people, given that a CompUSA sales receipt was in fact the stated requirement, not a packing list or packing slip. A copy of the rebate form is still available online. It plainly states:

1. Purchase a Maxtor 200GB Hard Drive at CompUSA between 6/13/04 and 6/19/04. Request must be postmarked by 7/10/04.

2. Fill out this form completely. Incomplete forms will not be accepted. Keep copies of all materials placed in the envelope, inquiries will not be accepted without copies of all materials sent.

3.Mail this entire form with a copy of your sales receipt and the original UPC label cut from the product package to:

In the 'fine print' near the bottom of the form, it reads:

TERMS AND CONDITIONS - Offer valid on purchase of specified product(s) only. Submit this entire rebate form completely filled out with a copy of the sales receipt and the original UPC label cut from package.

Anyone see the words "packing" or "list" or "slip" in there? Me neither.

The funny thing is, the stated reason for denial when I checked the status of my rebate online was:

Error(s): A valid CompUSA receipt was not submitted

And yet when I called Global Fulfillment Services, the CSR admitted I in fact did submit a valid CompUSA sales receipt, but that a sales receipt was not acceptable, even though those are the terms and conditions. They are now requiring the packing list, not the sales receipt.

I have contacted CompUSA and the corporate office of GFS. We'll see what happens.

Well that wasn't so bad. Already received a reply confirming my rebate has been approved. Even an apology for any inconvenience! Wonders never cease.
