I just called Staples, and they said not only wouldn't they match the $79.94 local Staples price, but they had this policy written on their "white board."

Then I went back to order anyway because with the $30 coupon the cost $10 less anyway,
but by then they were already out of stock. There wouldn't be problems like this if all merchants just gave away everything for free, dammit.

another " in store only " salesperson would not pricematch and ask me if i want to cancel my order 60.00 for controller card + 20mb drive, i think i will keep it

might try one more time later today

Yep, same here also. The csr said they will not pricematch this because the ad says in store only. I also didn't cancel. It is still way to good of a deal to pass up $150 - $30 coupon - $20 mir - $50 mir = $50 + tax. (sweet)

<< It seems that STAPLES will not honor the pricematch. I called twice and it is their new policy that they will not honor the pricematch on certain B&M sales. This incensed me! I called twice to register a formal complaint. I guess they will be losing much of my business in the future! >>

YEAH! How DARE them not let us screw them over! I would quit shopping there over this $10 dispute.

Geeze....$49 for a 20 gig hard drive. What a rip off.

The proceding message was sarcasm. Any resemblance to actual feeling is purely coincidental.

oh well..
I waited too long to jump on this Maxtor deal at staples.com .. but now I see that they aren't going to PM the B&M anyways..

I also see that they are out of stock on the drive at staples.com.

Guess I will just have to cruise down to the B&M and get the maxtor drive for $59.94 (saw 4-5 of them there yesterday) Still a great deal! I don't need the ATA100 card since it is already built-in on my Motherboard.

I wish there was a way to use a $30 of of $100 coupon at B&M..?

About this in stock/out of stock thing. I do not have a Staples in town or even close. So maybe they go by the warehouse that serves the region you live in and not by your LOCAL Staples.

thanks

So yesterday, Saturday, I went in an bought the HD and card. I was able to use a 30 off 100 coupon at the register. I've read about people using the special computer in the office section in the back of the store and using coupons that way, but they were all convinced you couldn't do it that way. I tried doing that but wasn't able to figure it out, so I convinced them to let me use a coupon at the register. It worked. I went back today and got my $20 back for the pricematch. So instead of going to staples.com check it out in the store.

sorry guys, staples will NOT price match the B&M stores for any president's day prices...the top of the flyer says 'offer good in store only' and they are sticking by it

i called 20+ CSR's to try & get it to work...finally found 1 who was willing to do the adjustment...she called me local store where i had one on hold (he-he) and was about to give me the credit when she got the memo not to price-match the flyer...oh well, still a damn good price at ~$50+, but just a matter of pride

if anyone in the atlanta area wants to go pick one up in the store just PM me & i'll tell you which store has it on hold for me...i've been trying to call them to telll them i don't want the drive but their phone has been non-stop busy

HELL YEAH! I was going to go down to my local Staples, but I was going to call to make sure I could return my other order at the B&M. I decided to try the PM, and the guy said sure. He called to make sure it was in stock at my local store, and they were down to 1!!! He said I was lucky, and went ahead with the discount. My order for the drive and the PCI card now stands at $107.97 - $20 MIR - $50 MIR = $37.97! Not to bad. Thanks Anandtech!!!

P.S. I believe I talked to Larry. I called around 11:00 pacific time.

P.P.S. I got an e-mail back from Staples regarding the UPC codes... They said send the copy to Staples, and the original to Maxtor.

I got it! Woo Hoo!
Actually this was kinda a PITA! Ordered last night (Sat) while the Drive was in-stock... Went through w/o any problems... got an email this morning (Sun), saying they were out of stock, and that my order will be canceled in 3 days... doh!
So I have 2 Staples stores within 1 block of my house. Went to the first one (they had at least 10 of the HD's in stock) and asked if they accepted on-line coupons, they said only if I print out the email/coupon and bring it in... they wouldn't take just the code. Said ok, and left.
Went to store #2 The manager was updating one of the registers in the front, So I asked if they accepted on-line coupons, he said "we sure do!". (I start jumping for joy on the inside ) So I grabbed the LAST 20gb HD they had, and the ATA100 controller card, he rang it up, I gave them the $30 off $100 coupon code, and cha-ching! $79.94 +$49.98 = $129.92 -$30 = $99.92 (+$7.44 tax) -$20 MIR -$50 MIR = $37.36 Woo Hoo!

Got home, called Staples CSR and cancelled my on-line order... (dopes won't PM anyways!)
I'm so happy... After having next to no luck with Hot Deals in the past, this is the FIRST Hot Deal I've actually had work for me!

I got an email cancelling my order because they say the drive was out of stock. I don't leave anywhere near a Staples either. Oh well.

They sent me the same email that the drive is out of stock. WELL, it was out of stock yesterday, but then this AM it was in, so I ordered. Now they say it's back out of stock. Anybody got any bright ideas how to get one of these after all??

For those of you who did the deal online and want the $20 PM.

Walk away from your computer for a few minutes, get dressed (teethbrushing is optional), and go down to your local Staples B & M.

I had NO PROBLEM PMing both the drive purchased online this week, as well as the one on February 5!

Um, so, what do you do again? Just go down there and they're gonna hand you a $20 bill? I doubt it. Did you have to:
A) Bring the drive with you? (impossible - most of us don't have it yet)
B) Bring a printout of your online receipt? (doubtful - you could've printed out the receipt and then had your order cancelled by Staples.com or even cancelled the order yourself)

How does this work? Please explain.

No Fritzo, you miss the point. Their policy is inconsistent between their B&M and online store. They've always PM in the past and they all of a sudden changed their policy. It was $20 not $10. Then again, you're either independently wealthy or live with your parents, to me $20 is $20. For me thats over an hour of hard work there Rizzo....:|:disgust:

On the $50 rebate for the ATA/100 card, one of the fields we have to fill out says

Serial Numbers:
Hard Drive Model Number________________________
UltraATA PCI Card Model Number_________________

So what're they asking for? The model number or the serial number? I'm confused.

try this...

buy the 20gb maxtor drive here for $99 - $30 coupon - $20 rebate = $49
go down to office depot and use the $15 off 50 b&m coupon found on various sites to buy the maxtor ata-100 card for $49.99 - $15 coupon - $50 rebate = $15 profit (i dont think they have this item online, but a few of the local b&m i found have them in stock)

so $49 net cost for maxtor 20gb - $15 profit from ata-100 card = $35 for both the drive and card after rebates

this is in theory of course until i actually get my rebates back but hey it sounds pretty good

and you can combine two seperate purchases for the ata100 card rebate

Just checked my rebate status and the $20 check is expected to mail out 3/16. Why did I post this? A follow up to a previous post that listed the fax number for the rebate center. Saves a bit of time and I haven't sent any original documents off.

Darwinyo,

Good thinking. Since my hard drive was dropped off today (unfortunately I wasn't here to receive it, hopefully get it tomorrow), I may try to get the ATA card for -$15 from OD.

If anyone feels like PMing me the OD 15 off 50 coupon and saving me a little time, that would be great

Thanks.
