imo they are not that noisy. my 400sc fan gets loud lately (hot weather, my cheap ass not wanting to turn on AC) so maybe the fan noise go over the hdd noise...

That's only 200GB though. The maxtor is a 250GB drive.

i love you and whoever else mentioned the staples pricematch. Worked for me..I reserved the last one in the store via phone since all staple stores around me were SOLD OUT . I hate to say this because the anandtech effect will occur as always, but $123 out the door, AFTER tax for this drive for me

the price for this thing is really weird, before it was 119.99 then added to cart is 179.99, then later they changed it to 179.99 on page, but cart shows 119.99, they then adjusted to 129.99, then 119.99, now you add to cart its 179.99 again... outpost pricing system is FRIED but since its still display, call them up or get a PM with other stores

as for the XBOX comment, I seen people with 200GB Maxtor in there. so 250 should also be fine. Personally I have a 120 old WD drive in there. But make sure you flash your BIOS to the latest such that >137GB drive partitions can be detected...

I use a 200GB maxtor 8mb 7200rpm in my xbox, and I haven't had any problems. I have locked/unlocked with configmagic, and I think it worked without error.
