I've got 160gb seagate 7200 for 82.00 shipped,so this deal ain't that hot, more like alright:thumbsdown:

Yeah, because 51.25 cents a gig sure beats 52

I'd take the extra amount of storage for .75 cents, but that's just me.

any reviews for this drive. is this a higher end model compared to the diamondmax plus 9 drives? cant find any reviews, and the 1 year warranty turns me away.

obviously not someone that needs a lot of hard drive space, or is limited in the amount of channels he can use.

jumped on it as my old WD 40GB died on me last week - i'll probably put this in the XBOX and pull the 120 out of that

I am actually interested in that 160gb Seagate deal - I want to stick with Seagate for the warranty & sound level.

Can anyone tell me where I can find that deal?

I like the 200gb Seagate but there are no Fry's around & this 160gb deal sounds better than $120 for 200gb.

I think the "Ultra" just means it has 8MB cache versus 2MB for the normal DiamondMax Plus 9.

no, diamondmax plus 9 model numebers are listed here:

http://www.maxtor.com/_files/maxtor/en_us/documentation/data_sheets/diamondmax_plus_9_data_sheet.pdf

The drive on outpost is a L01P250 which i found here:

http://www.maxtor.com/_files/maxtor/en_us/documentation/data_sheets/product_line_card.pdf

Here is the datasheet for Ultra drives:

http://www.maxtor.com/_files/maxtor/en_us/documentation/data_sheets/ultra_series_7200_datasheet.pdf

Internally they may be the same drive but they have different model numbers and it seems Ultra drives are strictly retail with no oem's which means no 3 year warranty.

Ordered and arrived just today...formatting as we speak. I got the 119 price with no problems. Pretty darn good deal, and still good as of yesterday (8/5/04).

I now have all 4 that i ordered (to different addresses because they wouldn't allow more than one to the same address).

Time to figure out what to do with a TB.

If you were lucky enough to have gotten in on one of the AMD bundles than this should fill a void nicely......

To those who dont like OUTPOST

CompUSA is having this at 129.99 no rebates. Add only local TAX...
check out their site for inventory first!! might be flying off shelves quite fast...

Me reckon this might be a permanent price drop on this 250GB monster.
When will Seagate follow?

I've got to wonder now if there is something wrong with this drive that is just coming into light. The least expensive 250GB drive at newegg costs $165 -- and that's an OEM drive with just 2MB of cache. How can this retail, 8MB cache drive cost a full $45 less than the cheapest comparable product?
