worried? buy 2 and run raid1! still cheaper than some other 250GB drives!!! ROFL!

also newegg prices arent as hot as it used to be. still hot for many DVDR products and 9800pro cards, but i stopped using them as much after being screwed over on hard drives, routers, etc...

This deal is pretty good, but you can only buy 1 per person/address.
As gshock888 mentioned, CompUSA has these for sale at 199.99 - 50 instant rebate = 129.99 + tax (9.10here) = 139.09 out the door. ($0.56/GB)
The Outpost sale with shipping and tax (if they have a warehouse in your state, you get taxed) = ~139.68 shipped.

So, about the same price, but there is no purchase limit at CompUSA, plus they had about twenty boxes on display.

199.99 - 50 = 129.99? What kind of math is that?

Dont know if it's been mentioned before, but I'm pretty sure it's $119 in-store at Fry's. I was at the San Jose one Saturday and saw one left, not sure about re-stocking more and other Fry's locations. IIRC it was the exact same one (Maxtor 250GB 8mb 7200 UATA 133).

check out their site for inventory first!! might be flying off shelves quite fast...

Me reckon this might be a permanent price drop on this 250GB monster.
When will Seagate follow?

I think that it basically is the new retail price of these, considering how many of these "only $129, no rebate!" sales that they have been having on this drive.

I'm not sure why Seagate would follow though, I would be willing to pay more for a better drive with a better warranty. I'm not all that impressed with the Maxtor 250GB DM+9 that I purchased from CompUSA a couple of months back on sale.

iis not the greatest.but i bought it from compusa 2-3 months ago possibly on that same deal, and scored one more in outpost. now im gonna set up a RAID0 or RAID1 (500GB monster or redundancy? hmm)

but your right, i have 3 seagates 200GB and i'd store all my important data in there. maxtor might not be the best, but for the price, it'd be great to store video, movies you DL, etc...

by the way, outpost and compusa doesnt say maxtor, which is weird, these are RETAIL MAXTOR drives, not even rebadged... why dont they advertise that is beyond me

weird ... got mine and started the format etc....

was making clicking sounds as it we reading/writing. Sounded like the card/tire spokes thingy.

click,click,click,click,click...

after a day or so of running the clicking just stopped ... now it's running silent as can be.

i guess it needed to "lube" itself up or something

I live in the great state of Ohio, where there is no Fry's, yet we pay tax on outpost.com orders. Woot! Good deal BTW.

Oh yah, I live in Michigan.. it came straight from an Airborne facility in Ohio (guess they have 'em in stock at the shipping warehouse?)

bummer.

with the cheap prices now for HDD, consider running RAID1 on cheap drives like these for important data

if you have Raptor SATA, SCSI drives, etc, then run RAID0 or no RAID, you'd still be safe (although still at risk)

Just tried to add it to cart, it came up as 179.99 (not 119.99) and it tried to charge for shipping.

Dead?
