Maxtor 300GB $114

I checked it out, it's a Weekend Special only....

I checked Maxtor's website and it says ALL MaxLine drives have a 5 years warranty.

Maxtor MaXLine? ATA/SATA drives will carry a Standard Warranty Period of 5 years.

I found the data sheet on this and the drive is a MaxLinell but Maxtor's warranty is indeed 5 years on this drive. So what is wrong with this drive that they only want to give 1/10 the warranty???

And it shouldn't have anything to do with it being an OEM drive because Newegg's Maxline drives are OEM and they carry a 5 year warranty.

Thanks for the find q2261. I don't know how I missed it. I was only surmising that the drives were recertified because of the 6 month warranty as opposed to 5 year.

I was skeptical of this thread given the newness of the OP, but bason computers has a very solid resellerratings score.

This could be a decent drive for archiving.

Seeing as how they have a bazzillion of these, I can only assume that Maxtor is unwilling to screw up the retail market by dumping what may be new drives into the market at distressed prices.
But then, what do I know. Even Einstein made misteakes

These are perfect for an external enclosure, for storage use..
