For anyone who has actually received the drive, can you confirm which model you received?

I got a Maxtor Drive in Oct 2001 with an OD rebate.

I still have not recieved the rebate.

I have called their rebate company several times and
OD Cust Serv and gotten a run around.

Thanks JKYamamoto. That's awesome. These are Maxtor's brand new drives, which are ATA/133!

Here's how it went for me.

Placed an order on the Web using the click through from another site. Had to play around a little to get past the 1st time customer usage and eventually got a $20.00 discount. Let the order stand like this until I got home this evening.

Just got off the phone with CS and asked for a PM with Staples for 99.99. CS rep stated that since they have a $30.00 rebate coupon that their price was already the same as Staples. I stated that I didn't want the rebate but just the discount alone. She then took the $30.00 off and it came to a net of $86.xx. With the $30.00 off coupon I will end up with it for $56.xx. This equates to the price that I got earlier this month for a 40 gig through BB. I already got my rebates from BB too.

The only bummer is that she said that it was a ship only item and that I couldn't pick it up at a local store. I will try that route again tomorrow at work. I will still get it on Monday anyway. I can wait since this is for a machine that will be going overseas in a month or so.

Thanks to the poster.

it sounds to me like some people have had problems w/ Office Depot rebates... is this true for ANYONE?

Just getting this out in the open I think may help some.

Any and all my rebates have always come. Nothing particularly bad about Office Depot's rebates.
It seems pretty much like pot luck with rebates. I track everything including photocopying and then get on the
rebate companies/vendors when they are late. So far I have gotten every rebate to which I am entitled. Sometimes it
takes a little bit of work but eventually they all come.

I am fortunate in that I can call from my desk as work during the day. I can always endure the wait times since I can
put them on speaker phone and continue with other things at my desk.

I just got an office depot rebate from december for a Maxtor 40 gig -- same deal -- matched price to staples and used a coupon. Ordered online and had it delivered free to my house.

I had already ordered the 40GB Maxtor from Staples early Sunday AM before this thread started.

I had a couple of other items to get and ended up using a $30 off $150 coupon.

I figured I was getting the drive for around $80 + tax after all was said and done (I had mentally applied $20 of the $30 coupon towards the drive)

I was a bit bummed when I started seeing the OD PM posts and thought that my deal wasn't so great after all.

That was until today. When the UPS carrier showed up. Staples didn't send me a 40GB Maxtor. They sent me an 80GB Maxtor instead and it's an ATA133!

There was also a free ATA133 card in the box.

I kinda like my deal now. No PMs required. Thanks again Staples.

don't you just love it when the shipping folks send a couple extra boxes, few extra gigs . . .

I bought two of these 40gb from OD and didn't have any problems with the pricematch. Haven't opened them yet but the outside of the box says ata-133 so I figure they are the "newer" ones.

Thanks for the deal!

On the chance that my receipt from OD online will have next week's date on it and thus past the rebate date here is what
I am going to do:

Pickup the item locally.
Get the receipt and rebate coupon and photocopy them
Return the item
Wait for the shipment to arrive by mail
Use the UPC from the box and the receipt above to apply for the rebate.

Should work.

NOT a 30.00 coupon but a 30.00 price match
OD --- 129.99
Staples ... 99.99

Diff - 30.00

For those that installed the drive, how does it perform, and is it fairly quiet?

Thanks!

For those of you that have done OD.com rebates before will the order detail from the "my orders" link on the website suffice as a dated receipt? If not what are you guys planning on sending. I don't have time to go do the return at B&M Store repurchase to get a receipt thing.

Thanks

Whew!!!! I just got this thing done.

I tried to do online order but it didn't take so I called the CSR at OD and she gave me the $20 off. She messed up on the PM from Staples and charged me $119, because she misunderstood some newspaper flier they have which reads that the HDD is $119 but it is on SALE NOW for $99. I tried telling her that I was looking at the Staples website saying that it was $99. She replies by saying that they don't honor website prices EVEN THEIR OWN. OK, I say just PM the $119 price.

I go to the local OD to pick it up and tell the CSM that Staples has this drive for $99 and the CSR messed it up. After the CSM CALLED Staples and confirmed it she credited me the previous charges and re-did the whole transaction with the $20 off for the coupon and the PM from Staples. She was then nice enuff to print a rebate form for me.

Gotta luv it. I was even looking for more secondary storage, sweet.

Just received my Maxtor 40gb HD from Office Depot. Called the 800# and asked for a PM with Staples. I gave CSR#1 the Staples.com Item#, and was put on hold (I guess while she checked). Shortly there-after I was disconnected. Called back and received another CSR. He told me they don't PM with Staples.com, but only to their flyer. Probably a lie, but I'm not one to argue. Naturally the Sunday papers were thrown out this morning (paper pickup), so now I'll turn to AMEX's BVG program (once the charge appears on my account).

RandyE, it does not matter if you threw your Sunday Paper out. Staples has its flyers posted on its website. Print it out and use it.

I don't have an Office Depot nearby, so going there is impossible. They did say I could fax the drive offer from the circular. Since my circular was thrown out, would OD take Staples.com circular shown on their web site? I really don't see why not.

I'm having trouble getting OD to price match too. Talked to 2 CSR, who said since I ordered through the web I should speak to their "web" people. They gave me a number where nobody seems to pick up. So I called a third time and was told to fax in some info, including the Staples flyer. I can't find it on the web. Anyone have a link to it, or have a scanned copy?

Anyone install the ATA133 version drive?

I took mine back this morning and got another. It was making a very noticeable crackling noise. It didn't really show any errors but I just kept having the feeling there was something wrong with it. They swapped it out no problem.

Anyone?

After trying 3 different CSR's at OD I finally got one that could make it happen - She had to credit my CC though, she was unable to adjust the price since the order had been filled. (I chose to have store pickup)

I was initially told that I could not get both the PM and the $20 off $75 coupon. Then I was told that they don't PM. Then I was sent to their website call center for some reason. Finally Tracy Webster did me up. Even she had some issues tho, since she was only going to credit me $20 until I reminded her that $129 - $99 was $30. :Q After that she got her calculator out and realized that she did indeed need to credit my CC a total of $31.87. I agreed with her and away I went!

$ 129.99 + $7.14 tax - $31.87 (PM) - $20 (coupon) - $30 (rebate) = $55.26

I remember the old days when it was about $1 / meg... Now it's almost a $1 / gig...Wow!

I didn't get a receipt with my order. Can I use the email confirm or the web page confirm as the receipt?

Hey, I AM GETTING SO SCREWED OVER HERE!!!
The STUPID OD CSR IS NOT GIVING ME THE PM AND THE ONLINE COUPON LIKE U SAID!!! I got the PM the first time, but OD had the HD backordered....so I went to a not-so-local OD store to pickup. After I picked up, I found out the price had changed online. Instead of $86, it was now back up to $108.

ATTENTION:
I just called OD CSR and now they say that they received a Company MEMO BS saying that they CANNOT honor both a PM and the $20 Online Coupon. Quote: "This goes for anyone that was told that they could get both a PM and the coupon. We cannot sell $30 below cost. We are here to stay in business." SUCH BS!!! Now the only thing for me to do is to return the stupid HD. What initially started out as a 5min order has now turned into a waste of a good 3 hours of CRAP!

I would appreciate someone to tell me how to get around all these impasses those CSRs have put up!
