Maxtor 40GB $120 no rebate

How long it usually take staples to confirm the order via e-mail? I just did the clear th cookies and ordering thing and I submitted the order. I just want to know when I will know if my order didn't go through or it was successful. If it don't work I'll just get the HD at office depot and save myself the hassle.

lilstevo - I just called Staples CSR and a soft spoken guy said ALL online orders are input manually by human beings LOL and it will probably be a few hours.

So it seems impossible to price match without an order number so I'll probably actually go to sleep then wake up in about 10 hours hopefully I'll receive an e-mail with my order # on it.

It's going to take a few hours probably since they do everything manually ...

ATA100 at $49.98 + paperclips .16 = 50.14 - $20 off $50 = 30.14 + tax

Why would I need the ATA100 card? How would it benefit me? I plan on using this Maxtor 40GB to mirror/copy/backup the WD 40GB 7200 RPM which came with my Dell Dimension 4100.

rossman u try pricematching the ata100 card with onvia and getting something better than paperclips or rubberbands? I think onvia got the ata100 for like 42.

I just got off the phone with rudest Staples CSR that I've ever spoken with! I have a few choice words that I could use to describe her, but I think they're banned. She said that the drive was out of stock for my area, even though they never ship anything from "my area." Everything I get from Staples is from PN or CA (I live in MO). She never said 'please' or 'thank you', she spoke in a low mumble, and when I said that I would shop somewhere else, she said "You do that! Goodbye." And I didn't even mention anything about a PM the while time...stupid $%^@#!

I guess I'll order the drive from OD. $120 - $10 + $50 - $20 - $50 = $90 isn't too bad for a 40GB drive and controller card

I read through all the posts, but could not see which Maxtor 40GB/ drive was on sale. Is it the DiamondMax 40GB/ATA100/7200RPM/Model #54098H8 OR the DiamondMax 40GB/ATA100/7200RPM Model #54098H6 (faster access time). The only info I got from Office Depot was the number STO154000U which I could not find at the Maxor Site.

ok..... I almost bought this drive at Staples yesterday....Had the drive and the zip drive in my hands and backed out....

If you guys can get staples to PM this and let you keep the free Zip drive I hate you all

When I read this post I went to OD.... The first store didn't have any of these with the 5 gig free sticker on them....I noticed this at staples also, some boxes do some don't...I think there's a good chance they are all 45gig drives, haven't seen anyone confirm this.

The second store I went to had one in the display case with the 5gig free sticker on it....The one they brought out for me from the store room had the ATA controller rebate on it....

I got the one in the display case.....

Just used $10 off coupon you can find easily to get the drive online for $116 (109+tax) at OD. Bought the ATA/100 Maxtor controller (plus paperclips) for a few pennies over $50 and used the $20 off $50 Staples coupon to pay $32 ($2 tax) for the controller for a grand total (after rebates) of 116+32-50=$98 for a 40g (45g?) ATA100(?)7200 RPM HD and ATA100 controller, which I actually need. Great deal Noobody.

Rishis, your question as to the 40GB being the one that Anand reviewed. No that was an ATA 66, I don't know about Staple's listed drive, but the one at Office Depot is an ATA100. There are two versions of the Maxtor 40GB/ATA100/7200RPM drive.
the Model #54098H8 and the Model #54098H6. I believe the 54098H6 has less platters and a faster access time, but which one of these two drives Office Depot sells, I don't know, but it's probably the slower version (54098H8).
