yup homerboy, thats what the staples CSR told me when i called them. (that itll ship from a differnt location so i should get it in 4-5 days) hopefully ill get a free 5giger

I just bought mine from Office Depot.
Once again some nice folks over there. Contrast the customer service with that from the Staples CSR from Hell, and I think all is fair.
$119.96 including tax.
Not too bad.
Now I have to tell my wife.. now that IS the bad part.

Office Depot story for the masses!

Ordered Yesterday (Sunday) at 8:00 am Eastern Time....2 hours before the store opened...on the website with the site stating "IN STOCK". The website listed the drive as "ON THE TRUCK" this morning. Get home, and wife said that OD called and a mistake occured and that the drive was not on the truck and that the order was being cancelled. She told my wife that I could order again when it was in stock! :|...I'm fuming at this point!!!...Called the website and was told that I could not BACKORDER at this price..!! Asked to speak to a manager...was told none were available and one would return my call. I then called the store and was told that the website has no way possible of knowing if the item was "ON THE TRUCK" and that basically I was OUT OF LUCK (GRRRRRR :|)....The store manager apologized but refused to backorder one or to pricematch the Western Digital drive for the same price.

So called the website back again and finally talked to a manager. Long story short....he finally agreed to manually enter my order as a "Backorder" and to not charge my card until the item is delivered. All this, and I still have no assurance that I even will get this drive....!!!

Point: Next time, I'll go stand in line (if there is one) and get the darn thing quickly and not rely on the POS website to order....(No inventory control what-so-ever! :|)

Engineer, what happens when you look up your order online. Does it show cancelled? My order still shows as being open, with a scheduled delivery date of Wednesday, but I'm wondering if this is valid.

When I ordered mine earlier the CSR at Office Depot (1-888 GO DEPOT)
said that there were 73 in stock for my region, or area- she said something like that. I wonder what area you are in that is out of stock. I live in TN- go figure. I called the folks by phone prior to my online order just to make sure. (wanted the $10 off thingy)

I picked up one of these at Office Depot B&M and the box says ATA 100. Ordered one from Office Depot online, was delivered today; and the box says ATA 66. Same model number on both. Go figure.

Mine supposed to ship today but since nobody's home they will deliver the HD tomorrow. That's what they told me.

So is the web site wrong and OfficeDepot.com is OUT of 40gb Maxtor drives? Or does it vary by region and the website is probably correct when it says "In Stock"?

EDIT: ok, says in stock but when you add it to your cart it gives the "back order this item" dialog. WTF is the point of having the stock thingy on the page then... Jeez..

Ok, stock of the HD is tied to your ZIP code. When you call Office Depot to check on the stock level of an item it first asks for your ZIP code before allowing you to enter the Item Number (368121). So it very well may be the case that it all depends on where you live as to whether the item is available to you or not. I would call 1-888 GO DEPOT and check for availability in your area before giving up on this one. My order has not been cancelled and remains completely valid.

FYI, I tried to order this through staples to get the additional coupon savings and got the familiar out of stock in your area response. I then sent a pricematch request online with their form and got an email today telling me that they will honor the pricematch quote of 119.99 for the next week. So my fingers are crossed that Staples gets some more of these in before the 4th.

I think you should try price match first, since it's 60 bucks off from Staples price. The best coupon for Staples is 40 bucks for 150.
My question is if Staples match the final price 109.99 with 10.00 coupon in Office Depot, or the reggular price of 119.99.

I ordered mine from Staples on Sunday morning by using a different zip in my profile. I never received a confirmation with an order number from them so I assumed that it didn't go through. Well, Mr. UPS man just showed up on my doorstep with my new HD including the free 5 Gigs. Time to pricematch and order the adapter card.

I was just looking at my receipt and it shipped from Tampa, FL, I'm in Florida, even though the CSR told me at 10 AM on Sunday that they were out of stock in my area and they wouldn't be restocking them. I guess that confirms the theory that they pulled them because of the OD sale.

Was the free 5 gigs another drive or did the 5 gigs add up to the original 40 making it 45.
Any ways nice deal. Also on the web was it ATA 66 or ATA 100. I recently bought one from Staples pricematched with OD online price of $119.99 (after getting a hard time with the manager, I ended up telling her to read her price match policy again and i got the deal) any ways i wasn't sure if the one online had the ATA 100 or ATA 66. So i picked on up from the store with was ATA 100. Next will be the pci adapter card for the $50 rebate.

Any one knows the best deal for the adapter card.

Hey guys I got a question. Since like the packing lists that come with the staples packages say "This is not an invoice" what the hell do you use for the $50 rebate? Well got my controller today, but still no HDs...and where are my paperclips damnit!

Ack! Evidently I said too many nice things about OD's customer service. They screwed up my order. If this wasn't happening to me it would be funny:

The first order totalled $119.34 BTW. They cancelled out my order and reordered at the normal price without the coupon! Wow, nice guys. My CC says there is only one charge pending from OD for the $119.34. The funny thing is I had no idea that my original order was cancelled. No email nothing, I saw it for the first time when I was check ing my order status. For now OD says all is well and the drive is on its way (yeah right) I have no good feelings about this one. If it happens to show up I will be amazed.

I really got mad about a CSR. I cancelled the order, since I checked local staples had them again.
I went there and pricematched for 119.99. It was just 40gig but ata 100.

Are there any coupons that can be printed out and taked to a B&M Staples? I was there yesterday and they had the drives in, but now OD is out of stock, so there's nothing to pricematch it against.
