Office Depot story for the masses!
Ordered Yesterday (Sunday) at 8:00 am Eastern Time....2 hours before the store opened...on the website with the site stating "IN STOCK". The website listed the drive as "ON THE TRUCK" this morning. Get home, and wife said that OD called and a mistake occured and that the drive was not on the truck and that the order was being cancelled. She told my wife that I could order again when it was in stock! :|...I'm fuming at this point!!!...Called the website and was told that I could not BACKORDER at this price..!! Asked to speak to a manager...was told none were available and one would return my call. I then called the store and was told that the website has no way possible of knowing if the item was "ON THE TRUCK" and that basically I was OUT OF LUCK (GRRRRRR :|)....The store manager apologized but refused to backorder one or to pricematch the Western Digital drive for the same price.
So called the website back again and finally talked to a manager. Long story short....he finally agreed to manually enter my order as a "Backorder" and to not charge my card until the item is delivered. All this, and I still have no assurance that I even will get this drive....!!!
Point: Next time, I'll go stand in line (if there is one) and get the darn thing quickly and not rely on the POS website to order....(No inventory control what-so-ever! :|)
