Hello,
Just came back from my local staples. They have 2 of the drives (I think there the regular 7200rpm drives)and many zips but,When I mentioned a coupon they gave me a blank look. Do you think the $40.00 off over $150.00 #890-55 will work at the my local if they punch it in? Or is that offer on the coupons only good on the net (I think they are going to want some thing more than just saying that staples web page offers coupons)? Please reply fast if you can, they close at 9:00 eastern. Any sugestions would be appreciated.

Usually they will always accept codes for buy one get something free type. It's harder to get them to take the dollar off codes. With that said though, you may get them to take the codes. I can at my local staples, but I print out a sheet with the coupon/coupons being used. If at all possible, I make sure to have my shopping cart exactly like my purchase so there is no confusion. If I can't (online outa stock or something), I use a VERY similar product, and then I use it being outa stock online as an aid to help me get them to take the online coupon. They aren't required to, but their registers can ring it up.

Jamey,
Did you use the coupon and if you did how did you get it to print off the staples site? Sorry about the #s, just the parrot in me i guess. Also the topic of this post does not contain it, just the body. Does that matter?

SimonSays - Look at the post above you dated Nov/23/2000 9:36 PM.

Just add the hard drive and zip drive to your cart, go to check out and enter the coupon code which chipper and 1gemini1 both posted.

What more could you ask for?

There sold out on the net, it won't work. I just need to be able to print it out but, because there sold out on the net you can't get to the coupon. I think we're SOL on the coupon. It's still a good deal though.

The coupon number you listed should be ok here...I edited my earlier post to remove me saying you should remove it. For those of you who need more info on the deal, I will do my best to give directions....

buy item # 428386
buy item # 445956

Pull up shopping cart click on enter coupon use #89055 (should be ok to post this coupon due to the fact it is in the Staples flyer this week) and a $40 off coupon found at other sites (techbargains). There are 2 floating around. I have read that some can't get both to work, but according to their rules it should.

That should be $180 + $100 - $100 - $40 = $140 + tax.

As said earlier...for most areas the 40 gig is outa stock, so you won't be able to add it to your cart. Substitute the 30 gig and leave out the zip drive. Add cheap item to get the total over $150 for the dollar off coupon, and print out the page after everything is tallied. Take that to your local staples and tell them online is outa stock so ask to use the online coupon there. Most will probably let you do it. Don't forget to get them to give you the free zip drive also. Local store registers WILL ring up all the codes fine. A manager may be called to approve it though.

Just tried it with 30gb Maxter and the zip. I get this error: Sorry, you have not fulfilled the requirements of the coupon terms. Please check that you have all items necessary in your cart to redeem this coupon. I tried earlier with a printer and a camera both well over $150.00, same error. What are the requirements?

Read my post above...you can't use that coupon with the 30 gig drive. You will have to add a cheap item to get the total over $150 to use one of the $40 off coupons. Print it out...take that to the store and use the $40 off coupon and coupon posted abot for free zip drive on 40 gig drive.

As I read it, it says 30gb ($149) and zip ($99), looks like about $248 to me. No dice. Maybe I should use a different item with the hard drive. I'll try it.

NO...wake up....DO NOT add the zip drive online...wait til you get to the store to use that coupon. It will be in the flyer this week...They will have that info. If you don't care about getting the $40 off, then just go to the local store and get both the maxtor and zip drive for $180 + tax. I used a $40 off coupon frm online with mine though. For that you will need to show them that it is a valid code.

Jamey relax will you,
I have a staples flyer sitting on my desk. I know the deal. I put all kinds of combinations to try to get this to work. I just wanted to get to a page that showed the coupon (nothing worked anyway, the # is 40gb specific). I'm working on something right now though. I'll post early tomorrow for the results. I heard something about a $30.00 that could be added too, I wish I had the #.

Well, maybe this will help some of you... This is how I figure you can still get in on the deal if you are still confused...

This is the current deal:

$179.99 for Maxtor 7200/66 40GB SKU 428386 (I got at the local staples was the 45GB version w/ Ultra/100)
+ 99.99 USB 100 MB Zip Drive SKU 445956
-$99.99 coupon code # 890-55 (expires 11/25/00)
________
$179.99 + tax = ~194.84

I didn't get a chance to apply any $40 off $150 coupon because the workers at my local staples are retarded. But, I'm not complaining because coincidentally, I had a friend that wanted a Zip Drive, so I made them buy this deal, and I had to pay $85 for the HD, so, no complaints from me!

But, here is another approach at getting both items for close to the price posted above. You might have to do this in two separate orders to be able to use both coupons, not sure... If this doesn't work, maybe you can make modifications of the idea to see if it works. If it does, please tell me, I'm curious.

#1. Call Staples, and Pricematch the USB 100 MB Zip Drive with Onvia.com (tell them to search for 31197 and it should take u to the page with the price). Onvia sells them for $79.77 + free shipping. Then, apply a $25 off $75 coupon, and you have the USB Drive for $54.77 + tax.

#2. Call Staples, either online or at ur local B&M, see whether or not they have SKU 428386 in stock, and just go about paying the $179.99 - $40 off $150 coupon = $139.99,

$139.99
+ 54.77
_______
$194.76 + tax

So, the only difference is that you'll be paying for tax... If this works, great, if not, I'm sorry for wasting your time... If anyone sees a better idea, please post it so maybe I can get another set.

good luck

If you add the Maxtor PCI ATA/100 card for $49.98 and some $.16 paperclips, you can use a $20 off $50 coupon in addition to the free USB.

$179.95 Maxtor 40GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive (428386)
$99.98 Iomega Zip 100MB USB Drive (428386)
$49.98 Maxtor Ultra ATA/100 PCI Adapter Card (443233)
$.16 The World Brand Paper Clips, Smooth Finish, No. 1 (ACC72380)
-$99.99 coupon code
-$20 coupon code
-$50 rebate
-free shipping
------------------------------------------------------
$160.08

Not too shabby.

I tried...if you guys can't get the $40 off coupon + free zip drive to work at your LOCAL staples (online is outa stock for most), I'm sorry, but anything less isn't that hot, unless you NEED the zip drive. I really wanted to do the 30 gigger for $99 - $30 coupon, but I couldn't find proof for a price match.

Dragoon42 - Please read Jamey's post dated Nov/24/2000 6:46 PM. You will need to bring the code with you to the store and a manager will probably have to approve the transaction.

Otherwise the Iomega Zip 100MB USB will probably ring up as $99.99 it's retail value. After the cashier enters the coupon code (found in this thread if you read all of it) then it should deduct $99.99 from your purchase.

Please let us know which Staples store you went to and most importantly if you also got the 45GB drive instead of the 40GB drive, thanks!

Dragoon and others, it is likely no manager will be needed for the free zip drive. It is only when you try to use a dollar off coupon that the cashiers get spooked into calling them up. For the free zip drive they will have to input that code, but it can be found in the weekly flyer at most every staples B&M. For that reason, you shouldn't have to take anything with you if you don't care about using a dollar off coupon.

No luck. You need to have a copy of the coupons in hand to get the money off at the local store. I talked with customer support and had them call my store. No luck without coupons in hand.
