So will this hard drive work with my motherboard?

SATA-150 and SATA-300
SATA is designed to be backwards and forwards compatible with future revisions of the SATA standard [5]. Unfortunately, there are already documented incompatibilities between particular first-generation SATA/150 controllers and later-generation drives.

According to the hard drive manufacturer Maxtor, motherboard host controllers using the VIA and SIS chipsets VT8237, VT8237R, VT6420, VT6421L, SIS760, SIS964 found on the ECS 755-A2 which was manufactured in 2003, do not support SATA II 300 drives. To address interoperability problems, the largest hard drive manufacturer Seagate\Maxtor have added a user-accessible jumper-switch known as the Force 150, to select between SATA-150 and SATA/300 operation [6]. Users with a SATA-150 motherboard should either buy an ordinary SATA-150 hard disk, or buy a SATA-300 hard disk with the user-accessible jumper or buy a PCI or PCI-E card to add full SATA II capability and compatibility.

IF it works, it will operate at the slightly slower SATA150 speed; it will also require installation of SATA driver via F6 duirng window installation. I had an Abit NF2 MB that supported SATA, but only in RAID. Your best bet would be to use IDE HD's on this MB, and save the SATA3 HD for a newer MB with native SATA support (NF2 is kind of old).

It would say near the bottom left part of the drive. My 320GB Maxtor says DiamondMax 21 on the top left and near the bottom under 3.5 series it says 7200.10.

The 7200.10 series has perpendicular recording. The 7200.9 or below doesn't. The 7200.10 is new technology compared to the previous series. Is it better? I guess that depends who is commenting but I think they are fine. I have a couple they are very quiet and run cool. Someone may post the exact opposite.

.10 is somewhat faster, and perceptibly quieter, than .9, imo.

According to seagate's documentation for both drives, the decibel levels are just about (if not) the same for the .9 & .10
I wonder if someone tested the difference (if any) between the 2

Don't forget that db is just a measurement of the energy level of a noise. Human perception is far different. silentpcreview.com has recordings of everything they test and they point out that even at the same db measurement certain sounds are more noticeable or more annoying. They're probably the best place to look for HDD noise comparisons as well.

Seagate now makes most maxtor drives..many people are finding seagate drives in these boxes.. so far I am 2 for 2

For me, the #1 most important HD feature is reliability. Quiet and fast are useless if the HD failure rate is high. So, does anyone know if there any reliability issues with the Seagate .10 series compared with the .9's?
