Office Depot currently has the Maxtor 80 gig 5400 rpm IDE hard drive for $69.99 after $50 in rebates ( a$30 and a $20 rebate).

Check around and find either a $15 off $50/75/100 Office Depot coupon (I had a $15 off $75 from their scratch off contest 2 weeks ago), or a $20 off $100 OfficeMax coupon.

Go to the store and buy it.

Using the Office Depot $15 off coupon
$119.99 Base drive price
-$15.00 Coupon
--------------------
$104.99 + Tax (which for me brought the total to $112)
-$30.00 Rebate
-$20.00 Rebate
-------------------
$54.99 +Tax ($62 for me!)

Using the OfficeMax $20 off coupon
$199.99 Base drive price
-$20.00 Coupon
---------------------
$99.99 + Tax
-$30.00 Rebate
-$20.00 Rebate
--------------------
$49.99 + Tax

Yes I know its not that fast but its less than $1 per gig, which is almost unbeatable.

NOTE: The rebates are not abailable online, but do print out at the register, as advertised in this weeks sales ad from your local sunday newspapar.

Wow, you could make this really hot if you did a BVG PM

I am going to search around later and see how cheap we can get this drive, maybe hopefully below $40?

You can use 5400 rpm drives in Tivo's? What's the max GB capacity a Tivo can handle?

b&m only. for those with no officemax locally, you can use the printable $20 of $100 Staples coupon that some people got for aswering a staples survey last month.

TIVO can use up to 137GB for each of two drives and 5400 is plenty fast for TIVO.

How many hours can an 80 gig drive hold on the highest quality setting on a TiVo? And what is the quality like? Sorry if these are stupid questions, but I don't have Tivo and wanted some opinions from people who actually own these.

Also, how many settings does it have?

on my replaytv my 80gb drive gives me 80 hours at low quality (never use it), 40 hours at medium (rarely ever use it) and about 27 hours (always use it) at high. for me it's usually enough to have 27 hours of programs available to me at any one time. i delete the shows after i watch them so i don't need more space. even if you wanted to keep the last 2 or 3 episodes of any particular show you shouldn't have a problem with an 80gb drive even if you record everything at high or medium quality. can't live without my replay...i don't know how so many people can. the only hard part is learning how to use it. and i don't mean learning the controls or stuff like that. i mean learning how to NEVER watch live television. that's sometimes difficult to do after being brainwashed by the networks for so many years. know what you will want to watch in advance and record it...even if you start watching your favorite hour long tv show 22 minutes after it starts recording you will still end with the rest of country but you will have saved yourself ALL the commercials. works great for sporting events too. sorry to rant...it's just that everyone should really have one of these. it frees you from your television and gives you your life back.

might be a little less hot for those of us who dont have staples coupons from the survey or officemax coupons from the scratch off. i couldnt locate any coupons to use. if anyone finds one though, i wouldnt mind a pm.

edit: ok there is a useable office depot code for online purchases... so to use it... i just print out my cart with the coupon showing and bring it in to officemax?

Man can never have TOO MANY Drives. (or money, or ...).

Yes, print out a copy of your online shopping cart showing that the coupon is valid. Take it to the store and then you're all set.

well I have a Directivo and it's like comparing a Riva 128 to a Geforce 3 in terms of video quality
it's not quite as good as dvd but it's perfect recording for a satellite. CMON it's in MPEG format...........gimme a break. What's VHS?

Just picked one up at an Office Depot in MN. Using the coupon I got in the mail yesterday for $20 off 100, total came to $106.49, minus $50 in rebates is $56.49. Not bad for a good Tivo drive. Thanks for the deal!
