I've always had problems with WD over maxtors, my 2x120 Maxtor RAID 0 setup has ben running rock solid for two yhears now, no problems, among all the other maxtors I've owned in the past.

Is this a worhtwhile upgrade from and IDE setup ? will I be able to see faster load times in BF2 ?

I jumped on this. It's currently the leader on Storagereview. Serial ATA 1.5, NCQ, 16MB cache. It doesn't include a SATA cable or power cable and it is native SATA so make sure you have the cables.

anyone else having this drive show up as 279 GB? I thought it would show up as at least 292? Thoughts ?

here are my benchmark numbers using Nbench, the SATA 300 Drive vs an ATA133 Raid 0 setup (2x120)

the SATA blows it away by far!

Disk Performance, MBytes/sec
File size: 900.0 Mbytes

for the ATA133
thread: 0
write: 26.74
read: 17.52

for the SATA drive
thread: 1
write: 63.02
read: 64.94


gonna use it as my primary and backup to the raid0 setup now.

I got in on this as well. The random access is a little slow (especially since I'm coming off of 15K Cheetahs) but the transfer rates are good and overall it's a good performer.
