I believe this hasnt been posted. i did a search and found older deals and no newegg ones

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822144421&ATT=Hard+Drives

i have 2 of these babies before running on a RAID 0 setup. Loved it, now i have 2x 400GB hitachi 8mb cache ones, they're of course slower but i need the size

but now the 300GB are independently running and still rocks! get it! this price is definitely great for this drive. 3 year warranty is nowhere near seagate, but its still something

89 cents/GB. Seems cool to me. Is there something special about this drive besides it being SATA?

133/300=0.443333

were you thinking that you will raid1 it 266/300 = 0.89?

16mb cache does help a bit. i think so far only maxtor has this bigger cache. but this is not a SATAII drive if the latest technology is your thang

i do believe it does have NCQ, however

Yeah, it's a good price for a 300gb SATA, but from past experiences, I wouldn't touch maxtor with a 10 foot pole...

That's the PATA version, otherwise, that'd be a pretty hot deal.

6L300S0
6B300S0

I'm a bit confused over these two hard drives from Maxtor. Would someone care to point out the differences? The only thing I found out is that the 6L300S0 is RoHS Comliant, and 6B300S0 is not, but other than that, they're both 300GB w/ 16MB buffer. NewEgg says the latter has SATA II features -NCQ [Native Command Queuing], and some of the reviewers on NewEgg are mentioning SATA II capabilities with the hard drive, but the title and interface says SATA 150. I guess the key word to consider is the word "features." So is either one SATA II? Also, does the 6L300S0 have NCQ?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know if anything has changed with the Diamondmax 10 generation, but I stopped buying Maxtor when I found that their drives run hotter than any other brand.

still debating on this. There's a $100 seagate drive out there but it's a 7200.8 which has shown to be slower and in some cases, more unreliable. On the other hand, this is going to be my backup drive so its not that big of a difference. Decisions, decisions..

There's no differance between the two 16meg cache versions from maxtor (diamondmax 10 and maxline III) as far as I can tell from my research. The more expensive maxline iii ones have a longer warranty (5 year) and are enterprise rated drives, and the diamondmax ones dont.

These drives are pretty much the next best thing next to raptors in the non scsi hard drive market (although I heard there was a new drive from hitachi that was as good or better).

For instance, here's the stats on the maxline iii:
http://www.storagereview.com/articles/200410/200410087B300S0-2_2.html
37 to 66 megabyte sustained transfer rates
13.5 ms read service time.

Now compare that to the 74g raptor (note that the 36g raptor is 1st gen and is significantly slower):
http://www.storagereview.com/articles/200401/20040126WD740GD_2.html
54 to 72 megabyte sustained transfer rates (a good chunk of the differance is from the 10,000 rotation speed)
7.8 ms read service time.

So if you need a lot of hdd space and dont want to pay the large costs of $150 for 74 gigs of raptor, but want speed too, this is a pretty good deal.

I think the difference between the diamondmax 10 and the maxline III is that the macline has "Maxtor-developed Shock Protection System (SPS) and Data Protection System (DPS)"... also, 6 bucks more for 2 years extra warantee... hmm...

Tempting, but I've had problems with Maxtor before. Any chance there'll be similar deals for WD or Seagate?

Im a harddrive whore, and from experience Maxtor has the worst drives. I had to RMA two of their drives and then I had to throw out 2 others b/c warranty wasnt long enough.

Cold IMO, but YMMV
