Just purchased a Maxtor harddisk from Staples.

DimondMax Plus 30GB 7200RPM 2MB buffer ATA100: $104

$149-$20(instanst discount)-$25(25 off from $100 coupon)
=$104.

It's a very good hard driver, I would say it's the second best IDE(just behind IBM 75GXP).

It's not very hot, just feel a little warm after intensive
usage. It's really quiet and fast compare to my old 5.1 GB
Quantum fireball.

Uh.. i just read that KT7-Raid doesn't like maxtor when building an IDE RAID...

sucks huh? can anyone comment on this incompatiblity? i read about it on apu's hardware.

I have 2 Maxtor Diamond Max HD's as my raid drives with no problems. Some people are also having problems with IBM drives. I would recommend you check the Raid FAQ that discusses the different drive configuration problems

Aren't the Maxtor's RAID problem with the Promise chip? Or do I have it backwards and it's the IBM having problems with the Promise chip and the Maxtors with the other one (Hot????), though I don't think so.
Oh, can someone find out if this is the Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 40 (15GB per platter) or Plus 45 (20GB per Platter) 30GB drives?

Well I know where to get the coupons. I am just curoius if I am able to use them at the actual Brick & Mortar stores. Or do I HAVE to order on-line? Plus is the same hard drive that is going for $149.98 at Staples.com going for $20 less at the actual store?

you have to place the order online (at the regular 149 price)and use the $30 coupon...then checkout
then you call staples to pricematch it against the 129.99 in the store (they will do it)...don't forget to add the "free" attache case too if you want it..it won't change the price except maybe for the tax...i just know i got the drive and the attache case for $106.xx.....vroom
p.s. remember, this involves pricematching the bm staples to the online staples...i have no idea if this can be done at a bm staples store

Actually store has ad fly with this Sunday's newspaper.

It said that $20 instant discount from original price $149.

I went to a local staples and told them to buy this one.
The sales person took out one from their count. It's UMA66,
I saw the other one inside the count has yellow label(ATA100).
I asked for that one. they scaned and found same price($129).

I gave the coupon that I printed from my computer.

So the total price is $104 plus tax. I would say it's quite
good deal to those people need hard disk.

This seems like a good deal but.... Wouldnt the IBM 45g 7200 drive be a better buy? The deal should come around again close to $150. Any opinions?

Ummm...Guys unless I am mistaken it doesn't matter if it is ata/66 cause the current generation of IDE drives can barely break the 40MB/s barrier for sequential transfer rates (even if they are ata/100).

Well...it was the Diamondmax Plus 40..which was the ata66/7200 rpm 20.4 gig hard drive that was having the problems back then. My cousin has two of these drives in on his Promise Card. Then again, you mileage may vary.

So any word on where to get a the PRINTABLE coupons? I know where to get the coupon codes for the online ordering. But I would much rather go to Staples tonight and pick up the drive myself.

If I do order online do I finish out the order and get it placed before I call them to pricematch it? Meaning do I submit the order first?
