Got mine in Office Depot cart that shows it as a L01P080 with 8MB cache. Most of the retailers that show this drive (such as Amazon) show L01P080 as having a 2MB cache. Maxtor.com shows only a 2MB Retail version available.
Anyone know any more?

Some of us do not need a drive that big. Some of us are on a low budget.

I would be perfectly happy with a 60GB HD for $15 less than this drive or about have the price of the 120 GB one. I missed that $35 deal two weeks ago.

Can't decide if want this. I've been on the Submit Order screen twice since this deal was originally posted, but am waffling on whether I want it or not. This would give me 270GB in my file server (3-80, 1-30)

Edit: I guess the benefit would be that if I make it my C: drive I would get better performance with the 8MB cache where the rest are older 2MB cache drives.

ah, just went ahead and ordered it...

My 60gb WD drive that I bought last year crapped out on me early January and I had to revert back to using only my 40gb Maxtor - coincidentally, the WD drive's warranty had JUST passed...

I will never buy another WD drive again since that's the second WD drive that seemed to have failed after its early warranted date - I don't think any Maxtor I owned failed on me yet. (hope I didn't just jinx myself).

so this 80gb 7200rpm 8mb cache Maxtor would do just fine for me

So here's the breakdown of what I got it for:

If you order online for local pick up and it says OOS, call your local store to check stock. I called and they have a few in stock. OD does this so that there will be stock available to walk in customers.

Sure does. This is one quiet drive! When I powered it up I did a double take on whether or not I had it plugged in...VERY nice drive!
