So, downloaded the Crysis demo and thought I'd bump the clocks on my 1900gt up about 20mhz. But I think when you unlock ATi overdrive the GPU is automatically OC'd 74MHz which I've never had a problem with before. I get to the screen just before the airplane and the game crashes and i get the VPU recover notice. Everything seems fine so I give it another go. This time I make it to the airplane part and it crashes again excpet this time it says the vpu is no longer responding and my desktop looks like tie dyed mess and my res was prolly around 800x600. I restart and everything seems fine again, but the crysis demo wont start. So I try Far Cry and I get these screens
Blue Artifacts
More Blue Artifacts
FarCry now starring, The Blue Man Group!
Also I only get half a screen on Quake4 and Prey, but HL2 works just fine.
So whats the verdict? I tried reinstalling drivers and such but no change.
Should I just get an 8800GT and be done with it. Unfortunately I cant run SLI on my board.

If it's the 7.10 Catalyst... Rollback to 7.7. I get similar artifacts like those in several games with 7.10 on my X1900XT. 7.7 and 7.9 do not do those weird jumbles of spiking artifacts with my card.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I did just update my drivers yesterday.

I tried rolling back but got the same results. Guess it is the card, thanks. Cant believe that small of an OC would have done that, kinda pissed but I have an excuse to upgrade now.

Looks like memory, not core corruption to me. Either way the card seems to be dead.

whoa, the blue man screenshot looks pretty sweet. sorry about ur card tho. u could try perhaps underclocking the vid mem in rivatuner or ati tool, and see if it still happens.

I agree, and would also suggest underclocking memory till ther is no problem. Then after a bit, slowly increase it back to stock speeds.

it might also be the ati overdrive. a while ago, on my old 9600xt, and whenever overdrive was enabled, the card would be unstable whenevr oc'ing, but it would be fine under stock clocks. after disabling overdrive, it was completely stable.

The same thing happened with me, but I wasn't overclocking at all. These problems started way back when Supreme Commander came out. Now any application that stresses the 3D capabilities of the x1900gt cause artifacting and eventually a VPU crash.

I'll try underclocking and see if that helps. Sure I'd love to just get a new card and be don with it, but this one is just over a year and a half old and I'm sure it has some life left in it.
