At some point a few weeks ago I loaded up BF 1942 like usual but it started quitting on me after running for anywhere from 5-20 seconds. I thought this was just because I had just reinstalled XP on my XP partition, which is where I was playing the game from and that I had a software issue to fix, so I decided to fix that later and install it on my 98 partition. I had the same problem with the game quitting, so I?ve updated all my drivers, directx, via4in1, etc, everything I could think of. Then I took my case off and found that the fan on my GEforce2-pro was not running. So I took the fan off, cleaned the gunk out of it, re-oiled it, and now it seems to run fine, but the problem with games quitting was still there, so I thought the fan must not be spinning fast enough, so I took a spare case fan and used some quick ties to point it strait at the video card heat sink, now there?s lots of air passing over the card, but the problem persists.
Could it be that part of the card is fried? BF1942, UnrealTournament 2003, and 3DMark2001SE don?t run for more than a few seconds once the 3drendering begins. This is true in both win98 & XP, also I put an old TNT2 M64 in the computer and game everything but BF1942 ran.
Have any of you ran into this? What could it be? What do you suggest?
