Hi.

I am human so can not entirely ignore Black Friday.

Can SSD-savvy members here pls give me feedback on this drive and its rating and reliability? It appears to be a HUGE bargain, but, I don know enough to really know.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820248016

Thanks!!!

Edit: I am a little creeped out by some of the reviews of this Huge Bargain Today puppy. I despise having to RMA anything, and only had to once: high end WD mechanical drive I got, yes, on Newegg.

I am.....confused.

i don´t know the us prices, but i´d cosider it fair and reasonable, even if it were €
do you already have a ssd so far? get one, its incredible
(i got 7 and all of them feel really smooth, even the 60Gb sata II ones that i got in 2011, compared to hdds) this one should be fine, with hdds i always liked seagate, don´t know whether their ssds are any good, but the chips and controllers all come from very few manufacturers, so there shouldn´t be much difference. even if its measurable, i don´t think you´ll feel it

http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/5447/seagate-600-ssd-st240hm000-240gb-ssd-review/index14.html

so this review says its not the top performer, but if the prie were good they´d recommend it (price wasn´t out then)

I feel yr enthusiasm!!! But I am interested in opinions on this individual drive....cause I learned right here on this site, quality varies bigtime among SSDs!

Remember, "bargain" is relative.:\

SEVEN?????????? U have SEVEN?

Edit: I wish I trusted Seagate in the ways you do. All drives are now made in Third World countries, it seems with little quality control, but still... My take re SSDs, is the quality varies pretty dramatically re the brand and even re the individual drive.

The Seagate SSD 600 is a great drive.

O! It feels as if U are speaking from experience, yes?

Have no clue re currency conversion in Finland, but this is like $80 American off the usual price.

I've only seen the reviews of it, and they seem to be reasonable.
Obviously seagate is trying to get a foothold with the low price.

I don't think it'd be a bad purchase, the M500 is $20 more so the choice is yours.

The price is only for today, Black Friday.

And, I am a picky little human, so, not bad is not good enough. That is why I am posting. I am lookin for AWESOME.()

It seems to trade blows with the corsair neutron yet is substantially cheaper.

http://www.storagereview.com/seagate_600_ssd_review

there is the sr review of it
tbh I can't remember seeing a single person on these forums mention it so you could be one of the first to try it

unfortunately they have a 480GB M500 and not the 240 for comparison

Thanks so much for taking the time to find that!

But, see, I don wanna be the first person! l LIKE adventure, but NOT THAT KIND.:whiste:

BUT, given the number of true pundits here, certainly including SSDs, that nobody mentioned this one.....well, I dunno.:\

I must be inhuman because I really have little interest in Black Friday. OTOH, I have read very good reviews on this drive - Seagate is new to the SSD game, but well established in thr data storage arena. If the warranty is decent, I don't see how you can go wrong at the price.

BTW, you asked for opinions, and that is one thing we have an abundance of.

I ordered my Seagate 600 yesterday or two days ago at the same price. It should be here today or tomorrow (shop runner ftw)...

Newegg also has a slightly larger San Disk SSD at the same price if you want to check it out:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820171701

I have had more experience with Seagate drives, but I would not hesitate to give that San Disk a try either. However, it seems that the Seagate SSD has better read/write stats.

U ordered it! That is an endorsement. I will go look at the San Disk, thanks for that.....and thanks for addressing the respective read/write stats!

Reason why I said I wouldn't hesitate to try San Disk is because for the same price you get an additional 16GB... And considering I can use all the extra storage I can get on my laptop and don't really need insane read/write, I think it's a fair trade off.

I am using a refurb OCZ Vertex II 100GB SSD in one of my desktops as a boot up drive and I am completely satisfied with it even though it's read/write is probably around half of what the Seagate drive is.

That SanDisk is garbage. It's based on the same controller as the U100, which is one of the slowest SATA 6Gbps SSDs we have tested. If you look at the product page, you'll understand why. The sequential speeds are okay but the random read/write speeds are from 2009.

That said, the Seagate SSD 600 is based on the same LAMD controller as Corsair's Neutron and Neutron GTX. That platform has been rather reliable and the SSD 600 is definitely the best SSD deal of this Black Friday.

I like you R not an insatiable human.()

But, given my drives are almost empty: I do not allow any junk of any kind, any apps I no longer use; I convert & burn big video files immediately and then delete them, etc.....my new WD Black mechanical drive, 500GBs,
is 380GBs FREE.

Even my backup WD 250GBs is well under half occupied. So, my needs in capacity are very modest. But, I would also only get 250 cause from all I have learned, they are faster than the smaller ones.

Right now, it and the Sandisk Ultra Plus at Tigerdirect are the ones to beat. For Sandisk, right now, don't buy an SSD that isn't an Ultra Plus or Extreme II.

But, the Sandisk Ultra Plus involves 2 gimmicks, while the Seagate 600 is a straight up price, and the Seagate is a faster drive.

K, got this one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/230799515490?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Vendor has sold close to 2K of them, very inexpensive, and the Optiplexes already have perfect nylon caddies for the 3.5" drives, always Dell Blue. So I just slip this cute red one into the larger blue one after pulling my go to drive, and do a clone to the SSD from my other drive. Or, the reverse. I think I can do it either way given my drives have identical everything on them.

Or not.

I have no need to put just the OS on the SSD and everything else on the mechanical drive. I plan to use the SDD as my go to drive.

Another Yay!!!!

Thank U!!!!!

PS Is the Seagate even less at Tiger? I get all my screens there. Only problem there is sometimes they do smoke and mirror rebate stuff. I once had to get fierce on getting one.....cause I submitted everything properly, wit da bar codes and all, and they dragged their feet. But I think was the Mfg. Time is money. I hate rebates.
