That's true for the 360. Right now for most people if you have a PS2 and 360 there is almost no point in buying a PS3 except for blu-ray.Originally posted by: BladeVenom
PS2 sales may not have been any better, but people were just waiting for better games before buying one. PS3 sales are slow because everyone is buying a Wii or 360 instead. Everyone will already have a Wii or 360 and PS3 sales will never pickup, even with good games.

To ask why you people care about sales so much. I thought that was pretty clear in my post. Do you require further explanation?

I've explained this many times in the past, I guess one more time won't hurt.
More console sales = more available games. Last generation the PS2 made the Xbox and the Gamecube its bitches. Thus the PS2 had a huge selection of games, Xbox had a good selection of games, and most of the good games on the Gamecube were first party and second party titles. So if you own a system or enjoy one system over another, you have a vested interest in seeing that system sell better than its competitors, because it gives game developers more incentive to develop games for your system.
Games sell consoles. Consoles sell games. A slow start can be disastrous. No one wants to develop for a marginal player.

That at least makes sense. It seems to me though that most people approach this as some kind of pathetic pissing match.
I agree Sony needs a price drop if they want to get their sales back up above 100K again, since not enough people have HDTVs and care about blu-ray.Originally posted by: mugs
I would think that a PS3 owner like DaveSimmons would be more concerned that the PS2 is beating the PS3 so severely. The PS3 PLAYS PS2 games, so they're just throwing their money down the drain if they plan on buying a PS3 in the future. To me that indicates that the price is a big factor for many people. I know people like to say that "hardcore gamers" are willing to pay that, but a system can't be successful if it doesn't have mass market appeal. You have to sell systems to get the great games that will help sell more systems.
Sony needs to drop the price.
