Okay, so I just got this motherboard, set up everything (I think) correctly, but I'm having problems once I get to windows 2000 professional. My system is as follows:

Inno3D nVidia GeForce 2 Ti
60 GB HDD Seagate Barracuda ATA IV
256 MB NEC DDR
24x LiteOn CD-RW

Now, I've only got one HDD because the other's not going to be here for another week and a half, so it's not set up for RAID. I think I've gotten the system running with just one. Connected the Primary (not Promise) to the HDD and the Secondary to my LiteOn. Now, Windows 2000 seems to run fine then after a while I get this error. Maybe some of you who know how to read errors can tell me what I need to do.

[Kernal_Data_Inpage_Error] and [Address ######## Base ###### Date stamp ##### - win32k.sys]
Beginning dump of physical memory...

I've formatted my drive several times. I thought it might have been problems with drivers, but I'm no longer sure. Please help me. Thanks

Oops...sorry 'bout that!

Well, I've noticed that everything runs smoothly and for several minutes, win 2k pro seems fine. Infact, I can install new software and the like. I still don't know what the problem is. Maybe ASUS sucks!

Check the mounting of the heat sink. The proc might be heating up and causing the error. I've seen stranger things happen. I agree with Kevin that this does sound like a memory issue though.

I don't think that Asus sucks at all. I have an A7N266-E running the fsb at 158MHz and it's as stable as a rock.

Yeah Gorillaz, ASUS does NOT suck. They are known for quality, reliability, stability, and performance. Mine is absolutely rock solid.

What are your temps when it crashes???
Did you try a different memory slot??
Are you doing anything specific when it crashes??
What nVidia drivers are you using?
Sound card?

i know asus doesn't suck...i'm just a little frustrated now. This means I need to spend another $100 on ram. How can you tell if a stick is bad? My temps are normal under asus standards. The computer is usually idle and then it goes to the error. Not running anything. Infact, only using 1-2%. nVidia Drivers are what came with the Video Card (Tornado Universal Driver). Sound Card is onboard.

The only way you can tell if a RAM stick is bad it to take it out, and put in a new one. Do you have any friends with a PC2100 DIMM???
Are you using the 21.81 Detonators?? or are they non-nVidia drivers??
Download the official 21.83 drivers from 3DChipset . Stay away from the 23.11 drivers for now.

What are your temps when it crashes?? check your bios.

def cpu heat issue or bad ram. i've gotten it before. usually ram was bad, just swap ram with quality ones

Gorillaz, are you by any chance overclocking - tweaking FSB, vcore or multiplier? If so, try your system at default speed and see if it helps....

the RAMs brand new! Tried different DIMM slots. A little bit more stable. Will get crucial this weekend and test it out. Thx

Asus has still got my vote

I know this is a dumb question, but did you install the Via 4 in 1 drivers? I've heard of some weird issues with Nvidia Detonator drivers and Via 4in1 drivers battling each other. The 4-in-1's need to win or system instability can result.

Try booting into Safe Mode, then installing the latest 4-in-1 drivers again in Safe Mode, then shutting down and restarting... Couldn't hurt, and I've heard several people say that it solved some issues!

it maybe your harddrive, motherboard or CPU. from my experience with ASUS boards the board is the culprit. i have built a lot of systems with ASUS boards in them and they give errors such as this. BUT, do not rule out the CPU. CPUs sometimes take a while to cause the system to crash. i would see if you can find another CPU to test. but i bet it is the board...

something else to check:

<< The computer is usually idle and then it goes to the error. >>

Have you checked in the cmos to see if it is powering down the HSF in standby mode?
I have had this prob before. (set off an audible alarm though)
Power mgmt disabled?

Okey, you are running a non Microsoft certified mobo for Win 2000, in order to isolate the problem and find the guilty, try Windows XP OEM or Win98SE, just copy some CD, its for a test only, or ask someone who as brougth a new clon PC with Win XP OEM, its a generic, no activation version that will suit your case.
After installing, apply the Via 4in1 4.73a for avoid the infinite loop if you going to install Detonators last version drivers.

Hello,
Yeah I get the same problem PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Ok here is the deal with my setup.

Asus A7V266E AMD Athlon XP 1600+ @ 1.4GHz.
Crucial 2 sticks of 256MB pc2100 DDR cl 2.5 total of 512MB RAM
Creative labs A2 Geforce 2 GTs 32MB
duel boot system
1 20GB maxtor partioned into 2 10GB each 1 fat32(win98se) other ntfs(storage) primary promise controler
1 40GB IBM ntfs (winXP) secondary promise controler.
the rest of system specs don't really matter.

Anys I had this system running great. Untill I had a friend that I had a stick of pc2700 ocz memory that I wated to buy from him to have a total of 768MB of ram. Any ways I installed the ram and booted up and nothing my system would not boot up. So I took the ocz ram and still my system would not boot tried for hours all sorts of configurations. then I took my system to my friends computer store where I bought the motherboard. And had it all tested the motherboard ram and cpu. Tried my mobo with different cpu and ram nothing wouldn't boot up. Then tried a brand new exact same model board asus a7v266e. And my system started up fine this time for the meantime. Then after I took the pc home I would boot up and try to play some quake3 and my system crashed with a blue screen with this error PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA . So I rebooted and when I booted the bios said that I only had 384MB installed and rebooted finaly said 512MB installed. Then took ram stick (a) out of the system. and lefted stick (b) in the system and nothing system wouldn't boot then tried stick (a) back and it booted fine and is stable hmm no problems then ad stick (b) tested at my buddies shop. That stick wouldn't boot in any system either. So took that stick (b) back to the buddie that sold it to me and he said that he can have it sent back to manufacture and he had another stick, I then replaced the stick (b) with stick (c) exact type of memory. Took stick (c) home and installed it and booted fine was happy again. But I started quake3 again up for some more testing. And once again the old PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA errors with other errors. Kept poping up again. So I took the working stick (a) out of the system and tried stick (c) by it self and would just get errors same as before. Then put stick (a) back and it works fine.
Now I don't know if all the sticks are badd or not im going to have to try some different sticks of ram and test it out also have my ram tested on different systems with both sticks installed see what kind of results I get. But I still don't know what th problem is for sure cpu or ram I know it's not the mobo since I just had it replaced.

I didn't read your report in full, but I had the same error when I overclock the bus, I have cheap PC2100 memories and I was running the bus at 140Mhz. I know your memory suport the overclock but perhaps the PCI is raiced from 33Mhz and fails.

ASUS A7V266-E

Hmm. I only buy high quality ram, as to avoid these types of problems. I did run into some weirdness once though. For some reason I couldn't run Win2K with two 256 pc133's. Either would work individually, but when paired I would have crazy crashes. Turns out they were high density sticks, returned them for low density of same speed now no problems.

I get the same error, its a nv_4 disp.dll based error -paging to a non paged area. I hope it resolves when nvidia, via and micro@%#* get their act together. Its not the ram or mb.
