Maybe the middle east needs an international police force?

With the way our world is intertwined maybe the United Nations should keep an international police force in the middle east?

What measures are in place to make sure the ISIS reign of terror does not spill into Kuwait and Saudi Arabia? What about spilling over into Pakistan and India?

For Iran to be talking about taking measures to stop isis, something has to be seriously wrong.

How does the world take a region who has been in a state of conflict for thousands of years and tell them enough is enough.

My fear is a nuke will be put on a shipload of oil and sent to somewhere like Houston or New York. Even sinking a tanker in a port would be a nightmare.

It seems groups like isis want to watch the world burn while the rest of us want to live in peace. I am getting tired of this middle east always in conflict news. Why can't people just live together in peace?

They don't need a police force.

They just need a fence. Keep us out, keep them in.

Policing religious factions? Yeah...that's a good one! HAHAAAAA

Just look at the United States itself, as a microcosm exhibit; with the mormons, baptists, catholics, etc. and so on. Try to police that.

Sorry to say that I brand you as the laughing stock of Anandtech Forums.

We shouldn't get involved at all, just let them battle it out. Doesn't involve us.

Last I heard mormons, baptist and catholics were not bombing each other here in the states.

We already have one, it's called the United Nations.

Let the middle east fight it out, and may the best fish win. That's precisely how the World was built ever since the beginning of time.

As the new Godzilla emphasized, Nature balances itself.

There is no winning.

The middle east stays in a constant state of conflict. That conflict stands to disrupt international peace.

When Saddam invaded Kuwait what happened? Why should we think isis is going to be treated any differently?

I agree. Always had, and always will.

Why we think we can change that now, well, money is a powerful incentive to try; and Bush/Cheney sure cha-chinged the jackpot of our taxpayer dollars, for their related private military contractors, while they were in office!

THAT, my friend, is what Iraq was all about for Bush/Cheney '00 '04!

Christains like to bomb

'Army of God' letters claim responsibility for clinic bombing
A letter from the "Army of God" claimed responsibility for two Atlanta bombings last year
February 2, 1998

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Federal law enforcement authorities have received two letters claiming responsibility for last week's bombing attack at a Birmingham, Alabama, women's clinic that left an off-duty police officer dead and a nurse critically wounded, CNN has learned.

------------------------------------------------------------------

But your right we dont have masses of extremist religious people (yet) in the country.

Since we need international police to look over Islamic terrorists, will they be keeping an eye on white terrorists as well?

(1) "not bombing each other". As in fighting other religious groups. It should be obvious why your example does not refute that

(2) "February 2, 1998", it should be obvious why using an example from 16 years ago basically makes TH's point for him.

Yup - We'll or Chinese will prolly have to colonize it again. After hundreds of years of piracy in the Met raids on Europeans coasts and even inland in cases of Iberia (spain) they had to. Today, much like yesterday with trade routes, oil is too important to be in hands of radicals and constant warfare. If our current vassals like Saudi, Bahrain, Kuwait fall we will under UN guise.

With America producing more oil and natural gas than any other nation I think it is time to cut our losses, and stay the hell out of the middle east. I am sure this is a lot easier said than done. Stay out completely. Provided what aid and support that we are required to India, and Israel. But have no military engagement whatsoever. Work on fortifying our country, support our citizens and stop playing world police. It sucks that innocent people will die without our help, but hey, at least they are making it into heaven right?

Both Russia and Saudi produce more oil than us. Not to mention we are still net importers using 25% of worlds oil. Oil costs us about 26$ a barrel to extract. In Saudi about $1. Finally Saudi and other ME sources keeps it cheap and stable as oil is a world wide commodity and they open spigot anytime we tell them to keep prices stable. W/O ME oils worldwide economies would collapse since whole economy is a derivative of oil.

Not according to this article, we are talking about production not reserves.

Hmm well wiki says different.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_oil_production

It's close enough in either case you use however doesnt invalidate the premise that without ME oil world economies take a nose drive since whole economy is a derivative of oil. The computer on your desk, the food you eat, the house you live in and everything around you even electric cars are oil.

I'm not ready to play little house on the prairie. While romantic on TV its a miserable life. Not to mention millions would just starve since current population numbers are dependent on mechanized farming (oil) and transportation (oil)

Guess Obama needs to reinstate the draft and make all those under the age of 35 eligible. Those who have not been in Iraq or Afghanistan will be selected for service first.
What, no criteria for party affiliation? Do I no longer live in Amerika?

Perhaps select women first to even out the unequal military shouldered by men in the past?
