While I have been mostly sidelined from running for the past 4 weeks with a crazy cough (bronchitis? Pneumonia was even suggested but we have to wait for the x-rays) I have usually been fairly active with no real problems so I was quite doubtful when my doctor suggested I might have some asthma. So surprised I questioned having gotten the small inhaler he recommended to try out.
Well, I just went for what was my 3rd run in the past month in hot and overly humid weather, but I did use the inhaler before hand. Given that I normally do worse when its humid and I haven't really run for a month I was expecting the run to be pretty bad.
So imagine my surprise when I not only felt good but at the half way point was on track to beat my average by quite a bit on my second longest running route. I definitely slowed down on the way back but that was more from heart rate and muscle fatigue than being out of breath. It felt like I was using much more lung capacity that I had been able to before and breathing in humid air was easier.
So its just one run so I'll see what happens in the future but a very surprising experience...
