Disney is not letting Ron DiShonest and his Goofy administration off the hook.

“This case presents the fundamental question whether the Governor and the State can escape accountability for their open defiance of our Nation’s most cherished liberties,” Disney said Wednesday in its opposition to state defendants’ motion to dismiss (read it here).

“The Governor seeks to evade responsibility for his actions on a narrower ground, asserting that a governor cannot be held officially liable for implementing, administering, and enforcing state laws that punish residents for political statements violating a state-prescribed speech code,” the company added with personal emphasis on the notoriously thin skinned DeSantis. “The motion seeks dismissal on Article III standing, sovereign-immunity, and legislative-immunity grounds, but those principles have no application here.”

He's using the power of the government to literally retaliate against someone for saying words he doesn't like. I'm really not sure how any conduct could be more obviously unconstitutional.

Disney's lawyers will barely have to exert themselves to win this case.

Now this oxygen parasite (provides no benefit for the oxygen he consumes) now says he would appoint a rabid anti-vaxxer to be the head of the FDA and the CDC.

DeSantis only knows how to be evil and do the worst things possible. It's time some folks start to understand what evil is.

I see this as a good thing, as it might convince a few middle "both parties are the same" morons that RFK should in no way be seen as any kind of good option.

Desantis is doing anything he can to avoid going after Trump and losing the Trump cult, so he's scratching for any demographic he can find. That massive RFK voting block could put him over the edge!

Desantis has one chance only to win--if Trump dies. That's it. Trump getting convicted of literally anything short of killing Jesus won't stop him from winning the GOP nomination. I say this after being one that thought (and hoped) he'd be adopted by the GOP and Fox, sending Trump to run 3rd party out of anger and causing Biden to win Bill Clinton style (when Perot ran). But he blew it just being a boring wokewokewokewoke non-personality chump. As one quote I read recently said: he set himself up look like "Trump with focus", instead he's just "Trump without the jokes".

That would not surprise me although I'm guessing he would put his yes man Ladapo in that position.

Cue in the backpedaling.
This type of response sounds familiar doesn't it.

"I didn't do it and I wasn't involved in it"

"These are the most robust standards in African American history probably anywhere in the country"

An update:
To no one's surprise the group that came up with the new curriculum has raised concerns by some about their appointments. The member of this group, William B. Allen, who went on fox news to defend their work and complain about Harris' comments is a conservative political scientist and political advisor. And...
But Thompson pointed out, six of the nine voting members on the African American History Task Force were appointed by the Commissioner of Education back in May.

Five of the six new appointees are either directly affiliated with the Republican Party or have previously been appointed to positions by Governor Ron DeSantis.

DeSantis, Republicans, conservative: 'Indoctrination is bad'. We must fight back with our own Indoctrination.
You can't make this shit up.

Florida schools have approved the use of “supplemental curriculum” created by PragerU, an unaccredited right-wing advocacy group that seeks to offer an alternative to “dominant left-wing ideologies,” in classrooms days after the state Department of Education approved new, controversial academic standards for Black history curriculum.
...
“We have seen that our schools have been hijacked by the left. They have been politicized, they have been used by union bosses, they have been doing everything under the sun not for our children,” Streit said.
...
Many of the most popular videos tackle controversial topics. As of this writing, the five videos showcased under the “Most Popular 5-Minute Videos” tag include “Do You Understand the Electoral College,” “Was the Civil War About Slavery,” “The Inconvenient Truth About the Democratic Party,” “Why I Left the Left” and “War on Boys.”

JFC, my kid is in his last year of high school here in FL. I don't want to upset the apple cart with him, he's doing very well in school but I can't wait to gtfo out of here. Any decent teacher who is able will likely be considering the same, which is a-ok with the GOP, as a non-functional public school system is a benefit not a problem. I am curious as to whether this conservative garbage will be mandated or approved to be taught by some wanker Christian schools.

Edit, from a local story here;
"
On Wednesday, the Florida Department of Education said in a statement that they “reviewed PragerU Kids and determined the material aligns to Florida’s revised civics and government standards.”

Now, it is up to individual school districts whether they will use the supplemental material."

Barf city "revised civics". Go fuck yourself, FL Gov.

What it does tell me is that there is some hope my individual school district will go tell Desantis to use Prager U materials as toilet paper. And if they don't I have someone to confront about it. Queue threats on withholding funding to any schools not featuring Prager U in 3...2...1

Yup. Sounds like things more necessary than math, grammar, science, etc. But, but, I remember DeSantis railing against the left politicizing education with "woke indoctrination." Ah, for him only the right can politicize education. Just more of the rules are for thee but not for me.

I am so glad my children are finished with Florida schooling.

I'm just going to lump this news in here since DeSantis is currently and ultimately responsible.

Conservatives / Republicans: We care about abortion and child trafficking but we're not going to properly take care of disabled children
Historically, Florida has maintained one of the most cash-starved systems of care in the nation for people with physical and intellectual disabilities. And the few reforms achieved over the past 30 years have required the help of federal judges.

The sole Black member of the state's GOP congressional delegation voiced his displeasure with the new African-American teaching standards and experiences immediate attacks from DeSantis' staff. He's now on DeSantis' shit list.

More Ron DisHonesty.
TALLAHASSEE — If it hadn’t been for a fender bender on Interstate 75 near Chattanooga, Tennessee, Tuesday morning, most folks wouldn’t know that Gov. Ron DeSantis was using state government vehicles for his 2024 run for president.

Tuesday’s four-vehicle collision on the way to a campaign fundraiser draws a curtain back on the campaign’s use of state resources. But finding out who’s paying for it is nearly impossible thanks to a new law passed by the Legislature to protect the governor’s travel records from public view.

“The legislature has enabled him to hide his travel records so we don’t know and have no way to hold him accountable if he is using state resources in his campaign or if that is even the case,” said Ben Wilcox, research director for Integrity Florida, a nonprofit government watchdog.

Florida is a cancerous tumor on America at this point. There is no debate.

Unfortunately without it it's pretty hard to win the Presidency. Certainly its possible, Biden did it. It's pretty much a lost cause at this point, between the rednecks, old scared boomers--transplants and locals alike, and Cubans and other Hispanics who hear "left wing" and think Castro, and believe the garbage about illegals pouring in and chewing up welfare money.

Does "Scott" refer to Rick Scott? He's worse than Desantis, or at least there's a discussion to be had. Dude should be rotting in jail, not stinking up the Senate.

It's hard to believe now that Desantis almost lost his first election here to a black dude, and that Florida was considered purple. Maybe if young people and minorities start seeing what they really stand to gain here, it'll become purple again.

Also unfortunately, it's hardly alone. I wouldn't call Idaho, Missouri, Alabama or any number of other spots enlightened bastions of free thought either.

Unless Bugs Bunny comes along with a saw, you all are stuck with "us" (I'm still here but want to leave once my kid graduates; I'm in a purple/blue county and so don't experience the worst of FL and there's actually a rare good school system here.)

I read this morning that a black fraternity organization decided to cancel their gathering here. That's 15K attendees that won't be spending money--not a lot in the larger scheme, but that's what needs to happen. Desantis and Florida need to get canceled by people that give a shit. Not that Desantis or his supporters see a lack of black people as any kind of problem, that's kind of a bonus. And I'm sure all kinds of white-first groups are even more likely to come here now and be welcome. If any non-shitheads do come, come to Disney as it's at least fighting this assclown (not that Disney is some saint, but you take the lesser evil). Hell you don't want to come here before December anyway, it's 9 million degrees.

Granted you live there, but I don't believe Florida is permanently an R+20 red state. Nor is it a coin flip like back in 2018. Losing Hispanic voters in FL and TX is very bad, but we shouldn't think that's non-reversible. Winning over Latino voters is probably the key electoral question of the next 30 years.

As a complete guesstimate, FL is probably an R+5 state as of now. Trump won in 2020 by 3.3%, so that's not what you'd call a "lost cause." ID and AL are ideologically way more politically extreme than Florida is.

You are hopefully right. It's just gross to see all the so-called Conservatives come out of the woodwork and embrace Trump and now Desantis. All the bullshit over covid denial, vaccine denial didn't improve my outlook.

I do have to remember that Desantis almost lost, and that iirc we went for Obama twice (though 2nd time it was very close, but then Romney is 1000 times a better candidate than Trump...and I dislike Romney.)

The Latino vote thing is disheartening. Seems like a lot of them buy into the FYGM hype over illegals, and I saw something where a lot of them liked Trump because he was "macho"....wtf, in what world is Trump macho? He's a cowardly draft dodging fatbody who believes exercise takes away his "life force" or something. He is a belligerent insulting lying ahole, I guess that is "macho". Definitely applies to creeps like Andrew Tate (wonder how life is in Romanian prison these days, or did he get out...don't tell me if he did, I like him the other way).

I live in Florida ... Some of the blame is the apathy of the young, shrinking middle class of Florida voters. Many younger voters are hard working, with the state having very low unemployment numbers and are not paying attention to what's going on. A lot of the blame is DeSantis and the Republicans. The R Party slipped a shill in as the D candidate last time to ensure DeSantis won. The rest of the red states intend to run the same play in 2024.

With Florida’s massive disenfranchisement (enacted by Republicans of course) it's hard to completely blame Floridians for who gets elected when so many of them aren’t allowed to vote. Many people are starting to open their eye's though lately. We will see if it's too late to un-fuck everything that's been going on here.

Well, they'll have to setup a line of shell companies to funnel money to a couple of supreme court justices.

Is it just me or does DeSantis bob his head up and down excessively? He seems to do that in a lot of videos.

Also, personalities can be fixed with a quick simple lobotomy.

If I hear "both parties suck" another time I'll slap someone. Maybe so, but they certainly are not the same, and if people actually listed policy--which takes time and work, so they won't--it's unlikely that the two evils are going to be exactly balanced. People just want to not think about it is all.

I see this myself with my oldest son's friends. They all seem like they'd vote for (IMO) the weirdest of reasons--if they vote at all--and none of them seem concerned about what is happening. A few of them are right wing and some of them are minorities, which is like roaches voting for Raid. Talking all males here, and most of them are into crypto (surprise). As they say, youth is wasted on the young Thank goodness for college-educated women, they are already the most Democratic-voting block and hopefully abortion will get them even more mobilized.

Old terrified xenophobic boomers VOTE. And they vote for both their own self-interest and out of their Fox-induced fear. Most of them give two shits about the young, FYGM and if young people want a non-theocratic, non-authoritarian government (which is where things are headed) they need to realize it's war. So far only one side is committed to the fight.
