That's Tim Scott, you had me quickly to searching to see if Rick Scott was actually running LOL

I've kind of paid little attention to the clown parade on the GOP side not named Desantis or Trump so I forgot about Tim Scott. Now that Desantis is setting records for how fast a candidate can lose support, none of them matter. It's Trump's party and his nomination and will be until he keels over. With our luck he'll live to 120 eating hamberders.

I should always google when I'm in doubt. Terrible with names.

Man when you read things like "instead of learning to hate our country", you should be worried. That is something you'd expect to read in Russia, China or some podunk banana republic.

Again, making schools useless is the point. Uneducated people vote Republican. Republican politicians, being educated themselves of course, know this quite well

By far the biggest Trump voting block from the education breakdown graph (I couldn't copy it) was "White, some college or less" at 65%. I guess that is the group that didn't learn to "hate our country" LOL

I can't blame you. I especially can't blame you if you are a person of color, I can't imagine wanting to come down here. The NAACP (iirc) canceled a big conference here--this is one of the lands of big conferences-- but that will be seen as a bonus by the GOP of course. Less education, less minorities, profit.

I've spent decades here and (used to) love some things about it. I still have many friends that I'd miss, I'd love to bring them with me if I move North next year. I'll be paying more to live, most likely, although home insurance (if you can even get it) is going up and up due to stronger hurricanes.

This education crap is so out there. I've never seen anything like it, it's hard to believe this is actually happening. Looking at the stuff this ePrager company puts out reads like an Onion article. I think the rest of you should be grateful that this asshole is losing to Trump like a chump, as hard as it is for me to say (Trump could still end up being worse of course.) My kid is almost out of school but if his district caves and allows that ePrager dreck to be taught I will be showing up to school board meetings, something I've never felt compelled to do before.

Hey Rick is probably on to something here. I like how the College has skin in the game too.
However I bet it is typical “muh feelz” legislation he is so found of.
Maybe some people can make something useful of this development.
Turning colleges into just advanced job training programs isn’t a solution. Ironically he talks about promoting critical thinking while clearly advocating doing away with degree programs that do just that.

Yeah that's a complete lie. The GOP wants nothing whatsoever to do with critical thinking. They want blind acceptance of propaganda (and it sounds like Ron wants to fold that into the curriculum.) A generation of young Patriots who have been fed America is great dreck and who lack the ability or motivation to question what they see---that is the way forward for the Republican Party, here in Florida at least. It's one thing to hear rhetoric on the subject, but it's quite another to see it actually happening.

I hope the teachers and schools stand up against it and walk out if they have to. I don't have much faith that will happen. It's not like teachers here make a ton of money that they can afford to be striking.

I guess Yale fails at "liberal" education, at least for Disingenuous. Liberal in the classical sense.

I'll be keeping a close eye on this. For whatever good it would do. I felt our school district did a decent job with covid measures despite Dickless trying to put his thing down about it...I've never really felt the need to go get into it at board meetings with the crazies. But I will be if they adopt this garbage. Again for whatever good it will do. I hope the teachers refuse to teach it.

Eh, he's still got his state to fuck up and he's relatively young. Maybe Florida will surprise me and move away from Christian fascism, but I'd be less surprised if the state gov did away with term limits and Desantis just stayed here as mini-dictator for life (or until he tries to run again).

So...another Texas?

Can we get that wall built? Circle it around Texas and Florida. Even Mexico don't want to deal with Texas and Florida level crazy.

Can we give Florida, US to Cuba? Just tell the Cubans it's part of Florida, Cuba and we're returning it.

Bugs bunny still wields a mean saw. I'll have to bolt north before the peninsula floats off though.

Texas has always wanted to be their own country, let em do it.

That still leaves you with Alabama, Idaho and bunch of others, but you have to start somewhere!

Gee I wonder why. I'm sure Desantis threatening school districts for daring to go against his covid idiocy was the start of people realizing that maybe this wasn't a great place to be a teacher. I already knew that, was close to getting my cert in the late 90s and decided to switch careers. Low pay here and now a fascist state government trying to force right-wing "facts" down your students' throats. I expect this trend is going to accelerate as they are not slowing down their attacks on education.

Losing teachers, especially any liberal/intellectual ones, is a bonus to Desantis not a problem. The more hamstrung education is, the better.

Not sure who is leaving the state faster, obstetricians or teachers.

The good news is you can easily replace traditional teachers with "faith" teachers, you know Sunday School teachers. After all the only facts anyone needs to know are in the bible.

I can't wait to see the standards for the faith based calculus class.

Calculus is faith based.
"If we chop up something really, really small so we can get it into approximately regular shapes and then smoosh all the pieces back together and cover with potter's slip, then we can get the correct size."
