While Ron Quixote is running around chasing woke windmills we are paying outrageous property insurance that will go even higher. Ron needs to be chasing a way to lower insurance costs.
Most home insurance has pulled out of florida. There are still a few but at lower risk areas. The major carrier now is state backed and they're asking for heavy increases this year. The problem with Florida is they never learn not to build where hurrican paths have been, and if they do build to take adequate measures. There are construction methods to beat major hurricanses, they do exist and do work. But no one wants to live in a dome or geodesic style home Except the greeks, but they're a bizarre bunch.

If he wins. From what I've read he's a total dweeb, an introvert with zero actual friends, very nerdy but not in the good way. It goes with him eating pudding with his fingers. Even terrible teenagers with petulant bo have more manners than this weirdo. I can't wait until he announces and all the political hitjobs come out and we learn he's into some weird fetishes. People like him who've got a stick far up their ass and behave too prim and proper are usually the sickest freaks out there.

Of course, it's a big if. But if he did, we know what he would do. And we see the kind of complete shit people the GQP loves. Whoever wins their nomination, it's pretty much a forgone conclusion at this point they respect nothing and have no decency.

I don't see any sane, reasonable, decent or moderate Republican having a shot at all. It's a race to the bottom for that party. You can't win unless you are terrible in a gqp primary

The chances of him winning are slim. He's tried to get the MAGA crowd on his side, but none of them are having it. There's been a few defectors, and in Trump or nothing families this obviously creates some tension where individuals will excommunicate each other. I follow a lot of right wing material online out of caution and because it's a test of how far I can go down the rabbit hole before being disgusted with humanity. The main issue lies with Desantis not having the suave ability to speak to masses like Trump, but if Trump finds himself in enough hot water the GOP will embrace Desantis. GOP voters will rarely vote Dem, but some did for Trump, and only because he's a pig.

The big IF happening and what you've said go in line with something I posted in December. Desantis is like Trump but not as brash. Desantis is cold and calculative. People on our side are laughing at him for being outplayed by Disney's lawyers but he's going to keep giving out the hits. As we've seen over many years even if Republicans lose, their voters do not give a damn. They will continue voting Republican because Democrats are "so evil!", and that will be the big burden on our country. I'm confident he'll only be a single term President because he'll fail spectacularly on a national level. He's been a failure in Florida so far. The last semi-decent Governor of Florida was Crist, and he was called out as a RINO, or Republican in name only. Because he was an alright person and not an asshole. He got dumped big time. In the last election he only garnered 40% of the vote, with Desantis making up more than 59% with the difference going down the middle towards Independents. Florida reaps what it sows.

The problem with red states is they don't want to give a Dem a chance, and if they do it's for a single term or a few terms with major Republican pushback that the Governor is a lame duck. We can see this historically in the US. It's easy for Republicans to drum up the war beats and get voters in and constantly keep their constituents on their tippy toes enraged at the latest issue whether it's transgender student athletes, gay rights, kids learning about black struggles and racism in the US, or alienating the rights of minorities. God forbid the people elect a Governor who will advance their state into a modern era and allow those who need help to get help and not have programs defunded because of "freeloaders" or other quibbling bullshit.

@A/// For home insurance in FL, there's also the problem that DeSantis' insurance 'reform' bill was basically a how-to in corruption.

I'm not familiar with his bill. Can you give me a rundown?

My current home insurance bill is low due to it being a newer house, but my old house I sold had a very high rate due to it being older and using some ancient systems which I paid a lot to renovate. Although a newer house I've already spent a great deal renovating it and changing things to my tastes that run in line with what people seem to love as trends go. I grew up in a farming community and most of this labor is easy to do even at my age. You learn how to do things efficiently unlike people who've never been exposed to that kind of work.

It's a great contrast to my career. A short life story.

There are toll roads going towards and outwards of the property. Take a support ticket with the articles online, not me.
There is one toll ramp like a mile from property. None of the roads going into WDW are tolls today.

Then why are they referencing tolls? Perhaps I need to see a road map because your comments are not lining up with what I've read online the last two weeks. To get into the road leading to the park is a toll road, yes? Is there a non toll road leading to the main road of the park?

@A/// Building Integrity did a great video on it. Also including a WaPo article. FL homeowners now pay their $5k-$10k/yr in insurance premiums for basically nothing.
DeSantis' corruption would make Huey Long blush.

I'll have to watch this later. I wasn't expecting such a long video. I do understand the basics of the scam going on. Issues like this arise differently depending on the state when there is no income tax. I've visited and lived in states with no income tax. If there is no income tax it's made up elsewhere. You can't have your cake and eat it, too. If a state has no sales tax which if you've ever taken a basic economics lesson is a big money generator, you'll find higher income and property tax. If there is no income tax, there's usually higher sales taxes and property taxes. Florida's problem is unique. They have no income tax, and their sales tax caps out at 6% with some exceptions where the rate will be lower or higher, often lower. Rising insurance and property taxes included little to no threat assessment on where to build and how results in issues like this. Florida is the definition of insanity. Doing the same thing over and over again and not fixing it but expecting a different result each time. None of the states I've lived in were perfect and all of them have flaws, how many depends on the people and the state government. You can't fix anything in a term in government.

Not related but I had a Republican protester once scream at me at the top of her lungs in 2003 when I took time off to protest the war. Half our company's division did. I forget what I said but she responded with "Dude who gives a fuck about history, it don't mean shit!"

No lady, it does. There's a reason we always say history repeats itself. It's because man has done almost everything and there's always one short sighted fucker who comes along and thinks they know better and are different because growing up their mama or dad instilled stupid levels of confidence into them, and they think they're the messiah of change. Turns out, the result is the same shit, just a different idiot. I'm not saying Democrats are perfect, we aren't. We at least aspire to be different and do something radical rather than repeat the mistakes of generations past.

sorry for the long winded post. I find myself getting too philosophical when I'm not drinking.

That's one, am I misreading it? I don't think I've ever used a toll road in my life.

Just get directions from your house to google and use the avoid tolls option.

Long story short you don't currently have to pay any tolls to visit Disney World.

Post a link. But I've spent 115 days at WDW in the last 6 years all with a car. From the airport, the best two ways of getting to WDW involve driving on a toll road. Neither of them actually connect to Disney property, though, they both connect to I-4.

The only thing I've seen in the news about tolls and Disney is Desantis threatening to make the roads going into Disney into toll roads. Which would have the effect of increasing the value of staying on property and hurt the value of staying/going off property. So this would actually help Disney and hurt the local businesses around Disney. Of course, Desantis only cares about headlines, not Florida.

Look up where those are. They are just toll roads around Orlando.
But do they lead to the main road of Disney? I'm genuinely asking here. If the tolls don't matter why is Desantis straining his already nasally voice trying to screw over the mouse? What do exterior toll roads have to do with Disney if he's pushing up fees. Clearly I'm not seeing something that all these news companies are when they mention toll roads in their articles attacking him.

DeSantis has lost against Disney. He will spend millions in taxpayer dollars for legal fees to continue the fight that he can't win. All he is going to do is piss off Florida voters enough to be voted out of office. Or one could hope anyway.

Yeah but the virtue signaling to the GOP base makes it all with it.

Virtue signaling against mean corporations. Oh how stupid Republicans are.

"We're the party of small government." - Nope
"We don't like it when government sticks its nose in private matters." Then why do it yourself?
"We're not racists, the Dems are!" Yes you fucking are.
"We love companies!" Yet you want to dictate them.

Republican complaints are all projections. Half of what they say and do is batshit mental. The other half teeters on fascism and communist principles, mostly the state stealing from the people. They decree Dems are Communists, clearly having failed simple government and history classes that teach you what it means, but they really love latching onto certain communist principles.

Except what they seize and steal is often from minorities, be it Blacks, Asians, Latinos/Hispanics, the sick and disabled, LGBTQIA+, etc. Oh, and they love thinking they get to dictate what companies can and cannot due, just like the communists!

I think the bit about toll roads all started from one of the articles/quotes where Desantis suggested adding them as a way of "punishing" Disney for this most recent legal end-around. That's all.
