bought my 08 Mazda3 i touring 2 weeks ago, and I remain happy with it.

Sure can't see myself in a Beetle. Hell, even the GF loves it, which is a bit of a coup.

I do see a lot silver ones around, honestly. Mine is black, though, tan/cloth interior. Was hoping for gray exterior, but just couldn't find any.

Buy the Beetle!!!! Nobody makes a small car like VW. If you can put up with the shitty reliability, the driving experience really makes up for it.

I've got a couple of the new smiley faced Mazda 3s...guess that's the 2010 ones. I like em. Drives well, good power, and sporty handling. Its a good, reliable and affordable small car though the Corolla for most people is the better choice. Just a comment for the Mazda owners, look at your carpet, then look at the carpet in the Toyota...or any other car. IMO , its the worst carpet in the entire auto industry....Mazda uses cardboard with pubic hair on it.

Note to Arkaign/Fmr12B/redgtxdi: The Fortes are broken. Just about all of them were delivered with bad seat sensors. Its like Kia is fucking with us or something.

Don't buy a Mexican-built VW, even their own documents admit that nothing but trash comes out of that factory

love my mazda 3. the new design is... actually growing on me. I never thought I'd say that. well, the hatch anyway, the lights on the rear look really odd on the sedan. and only in darker colors. likely to hide the giant mouth more, heh.

You don't happen to still have the cat caught by the door plush do you? You can put it in the 3's mouth

You don't remember those things? They resemble the rear half of a cat, yellow with stripes and the thing is supposed to be lodged on a door to make it look like a cat is caught by the door.

I couldn't find a picture...

Actually, the part about crappy carpet is right. It is kinda like cardboard + pubes I wore through mine under the floor mats and had it replaced under warranty, then I put a piece of plastic film under floor mat so it wouldn't wear through it again. Not sure if the fixed it in 09. I'd still get a Mazda3 over any small car. You are basically getting Volvo S40 platform for Corolla money. I'd rather my money go into platform than carpet. It just feels like a premium car in terms of driving dynamics. But I wouldn't mind spending a little bit more for slightly higher quality materials. I kind of wish I got mine in leather.

My father has a 2004 2.3L Mazda3 hatchback. After five years and some blithering idiot running a red light and plowing it at 25mph, it's still a brilliant car. No faults, no issues, nothing. And on a recent trip he averaged 38MPG!

I wouldn't touch a VW. It will probably spend more time in the shop than on the road. There's a reason they are at the bottom of the charts in reliability.

Haven't heard anything about the Forte seat sensors. Where else can I read about it, or where are people talking about it?

BTW, Mazda3 hatch fits a regular sized washing machine in the back I bought a washing machine off craigslist, and the guy was like WTF, you are going to put it where? But it fit perfectly fine.
It also fits my bikes (size L) with both wheels on, so no PITA of taking wheels on and off when I drive to a ride. So you got a car that drives like a sports car in the twisties and is fairly quick with a manual, but is practical like an SUV, cost me under 17K, and gets decent mileage.

I had a Protege5 and I carried a 6 seat kitchen table table top in it. Granted, the tabletop was hitting the side of my head, but I got it home.

4 burner propane BBQ (in box) and a snowblower were the other big items I moved with the Protege5.
