Hopefully you have enough money to fix and maintain those beauties too. Only reason I would not own one is the ownership horror stories.

It is definitely not for the faint of heart, but if you can do the work yourself, it is not as bad. My friend has one and he is changing the apex seals and increasing the boost. The engines are much simpler, fairly easy to work on. My friend has the FC, but I still see a few FDs around here, but they do seem to be getting a bit rarer.

Rotary engine power, with a more sleeper look.
That video is mislabeled, by the way, it says triple turbo, but they meant it is a triple rotor engine, with a single turbo.

I'd love to get the chance to drive an RX-7 FC sometime. Maybe once my Altima is paid off, I'll look into getting a project/fun car. They do have local SCCA competitions that I've enjoyed going to... maybe I'll try competing in one sometime given a car suitable for it (Altima != suitable ).

It's too bad about their reliability problems, because they're arguably one of the best-looking vehicles of modern times.

Rotaries take well to lots and lots of boost and high revs. No rods to break or stretch and no valves to float

Though you better keep spare packs of rotor seals and oil and learn to break down that engine blindfolded

I'm more of a JZA80, R34, and SW22 guy when it comes to Japanese cars though.

Did you see where someone put a 20b (?) engine in a Mustang to get back at all the domestic guys sticking LS1s in RX7s? Hehe.

Im on my 3rd RX now My first was a first gen 84GSL, my 2nd was a 3rd gen 94, my current, and favorite, is a 2nd gen 91 non turbo. All 3 are nice, although each has its quirks. First gens are nice as long as you dont have to take a long road trip (theyre like a go cart hehe), 3rd gens are great looking and a bit faster than previous gens, but unfortunately a little cramped and the engine bay? Friggin nightmare. Tightest engine bay I've ever seen. An absolute nightmare to do basic stuff like change spark plugs...air filter...ugh. 2nd gens, although the heaviest of the 3, are also the roomist. They are more of a road trip car IMHO. I absolutely adore rotaries Some trivia for you-only 4 moving parts with a rotary motor

As far as maintanence goes... once you get it in tip top shape its like any other car. They'll run forever if you take care of em. But because their maint. is so different than boing boing motors most people do nothing. Anyway...enough fanboi-ism from me

My wife had an 83. The engine seals blew on that funny little engine.

I found this on the Corvette wiki.

"The C4's sales success contributed to Mazda's decision to discontinue sales of its RX-7 in the U.S. after the 1995 model year."

The real question is...

Do you think the RX-8 is a sad replacement for the RX-7?

IIRC it's not supposed to be the replacement.

They're both sport compacts, I don't see why one does not replace the other? RX-7 ended and the RX-8 wasn't designed as a direct successor, but it still uses the same moniker. To me, the RX-8 was designed to fill the void that the end of the RX-7 created.

Reliability is great on those once you yank the rotary out and replace it with a chevy LSx engine and T56 trans.

Yeah, I'd love to do that just to piss off the 13b-rew lovers.

The Civic Type-R and the S2000 are both sport compacts, aren't they?
