Mazdaspeed3 hauls ass around the 'Ring

Check it out

This is a seriously impressive drive on the Nurburgring. The driver seems to know the track well, but in any case he hauls some serious ass, for a time of 8:39. The MS3 is far from being a high-prestige ride, but you can't deny the performance.

Not surprising - It's a public day. Most of the people are just joyriding and having some fun - not seriously racing.

I think it's more of the actual lap time that is relatively impressive for a $23/24k FWD car. Nothing to do w/ passing anyone on the lap.

I must've missed it in the video clip. What was his lap time?

Umm your an idiot. If you even read what I post you would know I like the MazdaSpeed 3.
(oh and thanks for that, now I can PM the mods with your previous quotes in other threads and prove trolling)

Anyways it is not surprising, but finding a GT at MSRP is.

How was he passing bikes in the beginning? That car has to have some mods. Thread title made me think it was the stock car or something

lol, you expect me to remember everything you post? Even if you said you like some other certain car, you're perceived as only liking RWD American muscle.

You could push this car to do 0-60 in under 6s. And quarter miles in low 14s, possibly high 13s.

Priced at around 20-22 this is really good.

This is a nice little sleeper.

8:39 - the same as an S2000.

More importantly, many seconds faster than the Porsche 993 Carrera S

...but still many seconds slower than the R32

Hard to find MS3s, huh? You can always get a MS6 (way below MSRP) and use the extra money to slap a bigger turbo and an FMIC and kick ass at the track. Kind of like this guy did here and here.

too bad I auto-x. and the MS6 is too big actually, if it were the 5 door.. I would suck it up and go for it. I really do like my mom's 5 door 6, just not the cloth they used.

they let him pass? they suck at riding? or just wanted to have a clear path for an upcoming part of the track?

in which case I could just buy the 3 and slap a turbo on it...the point was that factory MS3 were tough to come buy, not that you could turn a 6 or a 3 hatch into one.

The MS3 is a good cheap performing car. They had to actually put a torque limiter on 1st and 2nd gear because the car would shake off the road. That's why a lot of people prefer its big brother the MS6 because of AWD control.

I'll likely trade or sell my M6s and spend a few more K for the newer 08 models coming next year. Can anyway say supercharged 3.5L Ford V6 (350 bhp/380 lb ft)? Oh yeah!

I don't think Mazda or Ford plans to make another 2.3L turbo for its newer models. Though then again Mazda has been very tight lipped for the newer models.

I'm talking about the MazdaSpeed 6, not regular 6. Just another alternative if they're so hard to find and pricey.

Edit: I thought there weren't going to be any MS6s until '09 and a big maybe at that. Link?

I understand exactly what your saying...But if I am going to go out and buy the MS6 and replace the turbo then I can just as easily be 3GT Hatch and slap a turbo on that...and still get the hatch body style....probably for less than the 6speed and a bigger turbo...the 6Speed is a nice alternative for people that want a 'Speed' but dont care about the body I suppose.

the upside to buying the 3GT Hatch and adding the turbo/6speed tranny is that you can avoid the added insurance hike when buying the Speed from the dealer.

the downside being you have to deal w/ a turbo on an engine not designed for a turbo... aka, build it up, or hope you know a damn good tuner.

not that I wouldn't do it in a heartbeat, I would jump at the chance to do it if I could
