Lets see: Abit has one of the highest RMA rates out there. A lot of complaints on Anandtech involving gigabyte, epox, Iwill, etc. FIC makes mediocre boards at best. Ditto DFI.

FIC and DFI aren't performance boards, but they are constantly decent, stable, and don't have problems. Tyan is expensive, but decent.

There are very few problems with gigabyte, Iwill, and epox boards. The problems you do see are from people that have no clue as to what they are doing. In my experience, Abit's RMA numbers are due to user problems more then board problems, I've got RMAed Abits to work a lot.


Stop defending MSI's mistake and pretending it never happened. There was problems, I believe anand wrote an article on it and problems with these boards, when their crappy server died.

EpoX isnt perfect.. their RMA rate isn't exactly incredible either, my local dealer won't carry them anymore because the return rate was so high... not me who is having the problems.. if you don't believe me, call them.. i can give you the number.. while you are at it, ask about some other brands that they won't carry cause they suck. QDI is even considered good by them.. they barely ever come back.

gigabyte is a good board manufacturer.. there are just a few i'd buy for my own and they are one.
Iwill is known for a few boards.. but where were they before? overall they aren't exactly incredible either.
Aopen boards I never liked.. they are just blah. no options, nothing special, usually slow operating too.
Asus is totally overrated.
FIC is crap. their RMA rate as well is high. I'd never ever buy one of those.
DFI also is not known to be good... i'd say they might be better than FIC but not by much. Blah.

if I was going to bang off some good board manufacturers, they would be:

Soltek
MSI
Tyan
Supermicro
Intel
Gigabyte

I trust these manufacturers to build me a mobo that will last a long time and run like a champ during it's lifespan.

Just for refrence, all 3 of my ECS K7S5A mobos came from this sites for sale/trade forum. All of them for less than the $52.00 retail price. All work fine.
One was known to be a problem for the previous owner, a BIOS update and drivers cured the problems. I'm posting from the previously mentioned $30.00 problem mobo.
