I've had nothing but sucess with MBNA Visa. Ther Customer Service staff has always been extremely friendly to me, and I've never waited more than 3-4 minutes on hold waiting to speak with a CSR. The people have always been able to help me, and the one time my payment got lost in the mail and arrived late, (and thus MBNA charged me late fees) they immediately removed them when I told them that I sent the mail out on time. I also like MBNA's SafeShop functionality and their web site is much more intuitive and functional than other company's web sites that I have used to pay/check my bill online. I have not had to deal with a cancelled credit card just yet, so I don't know if they would give me problems with that but from my experience I don't think they would. Just thought I'd throw my experience of MBNA into the mix since some people said they had problems with MBNA in the past.

In any case, thanks for the heads up. I check my MBNA statement almost daily and thankfully there isn't anything that I haven't purchased on there yet.

Yea, MBNA blows. They've stuck late charges on my card many times, even when I had proof of delivery that they received it before the due date. Stay away from these non-professional credit card issuers.

I love MBNA. They've called me personally every time a larger-than-normal charge was on the card, especially from the internet. I got my APR lowered just by calling them, and they have a service that lets you make a temporary credit card number for every online purchase if you want.

Thanks for the info! I checked my account and it's clear so far.

I've never had a problem w/ MBNA, although I don't use that card too much.

If you have one of their cards, check out http://www.mbnashopsafe.com/

Finally, one of the sad things about credit cards is while they imply you have to "activate" the card, the reality is that every card I've seen (and I've seen quite a few) will self-activate after a pre-set time lapse. Sad but true.

MBNA's net access works great. I never had a real prob. with them. Their net access works immediately, many other card companies takes a day or 2 for them to update my online info., MBNA does it instantly. I've been charged late charges before, you must mail out a week before due date to be safe. They must recieve it and process before the due date. I've been able to talk my way out of late charges 3 times now. More you make excuses and be assertive, you can get them to reverse charges.

I like my MBNA because of instant online account updates, and no long wait for customer service.

No Extra charges here! Man, you guys gotta stay off the porn sites. You'll go blind. lol

<< This is the absoulte worst credit card company I have ever had to deal with. >>

I've never had any problem with MBNA but I've never had occasion to use any of my MBNA cards very much either. I've had ultra-poor service from NextCard. Disputed a ludicrous charge on my card and instantly got back a form letter saying that I was out of luck and to take it up with the merchant, as if I hadn't already been through it with the merchant a dozen times before disputing. Called NextCard back, using the number that said "call xxx-xxx-xxxx if you have any questions" and got someone who was incredulous that we would call her and bother her after we'd already gotten their notice of denying the dispute. Tried to get through to a supervisor and left no less than 10 voice mails that went unanswered. Finally got through to someone at the executive level who acted aghast when he heard the whole story, promised to call back immediately with resolution, and we never heard from him again. In the meantime, my wife actually got it resolved with the merchant (Earthlink). Gonna pay off the NextCard, use up the gazillion reward points, and then drop the card right in the old crosscut shredder.

OH, scariest thing is that I have another dispute pending from NextCard right now over an Egghead purchase that was returned with an RMA and no credit ever issued.

Well your problems w/ NextCard are due to their business model of targeting higher-risk customers which the larger banks tend to avoid. So now they are in serious financial troubles, and struggling for survival.

Note I don't mean to imply you're a higher-risk customer. NextCard also marketed heavily as an Internet-savvy credit card.

No inference read here on the higher-risk statement. I haven't looked at NextCard's SEC filings (or any other company's) in a long time, but am not surprised to hear that they're in trouble. Early on they were very aggressive about pumping out cards and that usually comes back to bite companies in the butt. Guess they decided to put together a business plan to match their Internet flavor. Might oughta go on and start cashing out all those reward points.

Thanks. Checked both my MBNA MC & Visa accounts and I am OK.
And I agree, of my dozen or so credit cards, MBNA is distinguished in providing outstanding customer service.

I also received a call from MBNA back a few weeks ago. Someone opened a joint account with the name of my former roommate and mine, and spent $4000+ without paying a penny. They provided the correct address, phone #, and even DOB, but thank god they didn't have our SSN, so that finally we are safe. Just my own experience, probably you should not let people know your DOB as well. : )

The Amazon-Nextcard is great! An effective 2% cashback rate with no funny stuff involved, can't find that anywhere. Sad to hear them going under, but remember your cashback points are accrued monthly and those amazon gc rewards pop up on your screen immediately.

I have been MBNA Master card holder for more than 2 years and I do like their ShopSafe program coz I make a lotta internet purchases. Glad I am clean too after checking my account. My girl, however, got burned few years ago. At that time MBNA mailed her some cash-advance checks during X'mas time and those checks got stolen. The theif used those checks shopping at Macy's and my girl never knew that. It took her almost half a year to clear this charge of $3,000+. So, if your CC companies keep sending you the cash-advance checks, you'd better request the CC companies to stop sending you the checks.

I am happy with MBNA. Somebody charged about $4,000.00 on my account and MBNA took care of it. The transactions took place in New York(I'm In OH) and at the time the transaction took place, I was at the movies. Regarding late fees, MBNA have never given me any problem whenever I challenged them about it. I no longer use BB and OM credit cards because both are very sneaky. Just thought i would share with you all my experience with MBNA. Happy holidays and may 2002 be better for all of us. Thank you.

Oh, really? I sure wasn't a high risk when they granted me credit. Perhaps they opened up for higher-risk people, but I'm not sure I would say they targeted higher-risk people.

Back to subject: I love MBNA! They were the first company to ever issue me credit. I have enjoyed their services so far, taht's for almost four years now. I have built a good credit with them, on which basis companies like American Express were willing to issue me a credit account. In fact, MBNA just sent me an offer to upgrade form my MasterCard credit card to a Platinum Plus MasterCard credit card. There's no annual fee either.

Anyway, I haven't used my card in a while now, but I think I'll be using it soon again. I used to use it a lot until American Express (AE) started to offer the Best Value Guarantee and other benefits. I haven't seen any strange charges on my MBNA account. The most I have seen was rather on my inactive AE card from some Swiss supposed company. *Strange!*

In a nutshell, I like MBNA and its customer service so far.

Thanks for the notice/caution, nonetheless, ChopOMatic.

<< My MBNA credit card was stolen 2 years ago along with all my other cards. 4 other credit card companies immediately adjusted my account without fanfare. To this day, MBNA has refused to credit me, claiming I never informed them, and that I should have written them a letter instead of a phone call. I am absolutely outraged. I have left messages, emails, snail mail, --> No response. This is the absoulte worst credit card company I have ever had to deal with. I am currently retaining legal counsel to prevent my credit history from being tarnished. I highly recommend anyone and everyone to avoid doing business with this issuer. >>

I'm glad to hear about this now, because I just activated my ACM MBNA card this week and have yet to use it :Q I'll think twice before I do.

Funny to see this post, since I was almost a victim of CC fraud just the other day. I got a letter from MBNA saying they had an odd charge on my card, and that I should call them (they couln't get in touch with me because I had a different phone #). Turns out, someone in Russia (!!!) tried to charge $3 on my card. thing is, the card was in my wallet, and hadn't been used in over a year. Scary how easily it can happen. I'm happy MBNA caught it and didn't allow it, even if it was only $3. I'm very impressed with the controls in place.

A couple of months ago I received a credit statement from MBNA concerning a visa I didn't even have. Turns out someone charged $400 on my visa (I didn't even know I had an account with MBNA) on phone cards at net2phone.com. I call MBNA right up to and they took care of it. Funny thing is that they gave me an option of cancelling my account or issueing me a new card with a new number. I chose to cancel, but a couple weeks later, I received a new card from them. I'm like WTF? I told them I want to cancel my account! This company has major security holes and need to be shut down! Stay away from them at all cost.

I can't believe this get's moved to the top of the listing in the forums. Bogus charges happen all the time. With millions of cards floating around, you'll eventually get "hit". I just found one on my American Express card for $88 from a place called PayNow (whatever that is). Should I post a "HOT DEAL" about that? Nah.... schtuff happens.

Also, no one else is reporting this probem with MBNA, so it's a LOT of negative press for a company that's done nothing and isn't a nation wide problem based on the responses here.

Was I being overly cautious when Computer Geeks said they couldn't verify my alternate shipping address with Mastercard? They asked for my DOB, and I gave it to them on the phone (I called them, since they never contacted me about the problem with the order).

Then they said the CC company still wouldn't give them the information they needed,
and said I need to FAX them a copy of my card, driver license, and written approval to ship to the alternate address.
I called them back, and instead changed payment to the discover card I use all the time, which also has the alternate address listed with them.
So they finally sent an email saying they still couldn't verify, and cancelled the order. (Probably because they raised the price of the item and sold out anyway).

Has anyone ever heard of this kind of approval being necessary? Just how are they contacting the CC company for this information anyway? This was a first for me, and I've had plenty of experience ordering stuff- just not from them... I would be more worried about giving them my DOB, but since they seem to be an established company, it just seems strange rather than worrisome.
