Got an offer in the mail yesterday from MBNA. It's an intro 0% APR, 7.9% fixed thereafter, no annual fee card. Plus, they claim you get 5% back every time you "pay at the pump". This 5% is applied back to your credit card as a credit every month. So, how does this rate?

First, they have Chase shell MC, then now citibank shell MC, Chase freedom, AAA credit card, now MBNA platinum plus, it seems like the 5% gas rebate war just started.

Do they give you 1% cash back on all other purchases?
I don't want the hassle of carrying a card just for purchasing gas and use my other card that gives 1% back on all purchases.

I have MBNA Elite Rewards Visa (step down from Platinum) & I get 1% cash back on all purchases. I haven't had a problem with MBNA at all, and there online account access stuff is great. Unlike my Capital One card, you can see the purchases the same day you make them. They are "temporary" authorizations, but at least you can see where they are from, unlike my other card.

Hope that helps

I'm definetely gonna have to look into the Platinum Plus card with 5% back though!

got any links you can supply? I can only find the platinum plus business card.... Sounds like a great deal if there are no hidden catches!

How many people have cards through MBNA, this is the first I have heard of them.

MBNA is one of the biggest credit card issuers. Don't have exact numbers, but they are big.
Also one of the finer CC companies that you will ever deal with. They have excellent CS.

They and AMEX are the only ones that can generate random one-time use CC numbers on demand. (Discover doesn't count)
And the only company that I have come across that displays temp charges online right away.

MBNA is huge, I had their card for the past 4 years, and they recently upgraded me to platinum which made me feel much better=), I didnt know you can generate 1 time online numbers. Also I know citibank lets you generate those and their system is very advanced as well.

Citi is better, you get 10% back the first 60 days.
I'm not sure if it's still going on, but I'll go with a more bigger company.

Is there an American Express with these benefits? I get gas from Costco and they only accept American Express.

I have the AAA 5% rebate card. It's a Visa, 0% intro rate, no annual fee card. Not sure about the fixed rate thereafter. Works fine. Just got the 1st bill this week and it shows the 5% off gas purchases on the bill. You DO have to get the gas at a pump where you swipe the card. Can't pay inside.

I buy all my gas at Sams Club which is the cheapest in my city and the 5% discount works there too!

We're AAA members but I thought I read somewhere that you don't have to be member to get the card.

MBNA flat-out sucks. Don't let them bait you in and then change the agreement. Stick with Citibank or American Express. They are much, much, much better companies.

Yeah, the 5% is the AAA MBNA card, when I sent in their preapproved offer, they called me and started to ask me about every dollar I earned and spent, I said, you either give me the card or give me the rejection letter, I dont need anymore credit and all I did is just answered the preapproved application. They said ok, I got rejection and just recieved my free credit report for it, hot deal. Guess what? I recieved another application exactly like the first one.
On another note, I used to have MBNA card for a 2 years, one of those fixed rate deals, and never used it, so I called to cancel, and it took about an hour on hold before I got to live person to cancel my card. They might have improved now. By the way, citibank also allows to generate random numbers, but Amex is the best with online dispute resolution and BVG, excellent service, never more than a minute on hold even in the middle of the night.

According to the people on Epinions rating this car, it seems to be a horrible card with horrible service. I have a GM mastercard now and have no complaints with the service I receive. I pay all my bills online, never leave a balance, but unfortunately I cannot use my earnings on a new vehicel (GM discount is much better!). Would I not be happy with this MBNA card if I could still get it?

MBNA is the best. You can also use their shopsafe and it generates one-time use only credit cards numbers. I use it all the time whenever I buy something by phone or internet.
