McCain will walk into a lame duck Presidency. The Democrats are controlling Congress for the near future.

I agree. Even if he doesn't intend to be Bush the 3rd, the same dynamic of the Bush Administration versus this Democratic Congress will remain and it will effectively play out as if Bush were in office for a 3rd term.

So... more war, more spending, more debt?

Hey, maybe we get another economic stimulus from our 2010 taxes?

BUT...

It kinda got me thinking about the severity of the "what if?" If the Dems can't win this one, what's it say about the party? The people? The USA? What would be the impact of a McCain win on American politics?

Next question...

It absolutely boggled my mind that GWB won in 2004. His record was abysmal. He launched a war thought to be a big mistake (that perception became more prevalent during his 2nd term) by a great many people and it was virtually universally acknowledged that the war was launched under false pretenses. Still, he was elected. This has to be perceived as a failing of the Democrats as well as the USA as a whole. Nothing would surprise me including a McCain victory. Next question, please.

I was shocked it was even close let alone a Bush victory. Most of the people I know who voted for Bush say they didn't like him or approve of the job he was doing but didn't trust Kerry either. I do not understand that logic. On one hand you have a known negative and the other hand you have a possible negative. Why vote for the KNOWN negative?

Not good logic especially when Kerry wasn't exactly a 'devil'. I don't think he was very inspiring but I don't think he could have possibly done worse than GWB has done.

But not enough people thought like you so we got the devil we knew.

McCain is a Maverick. He does not like Earmarks and he will not put up stupid bills being sent to the president to sign. Plus McCain would get to select supreme court judges. A few of them could drop dead while he is in office. Even if he replaces only one it would be a major setback to the Ultra Liberals. You may find McCain is a lot harder to deal with than you think.

On the other hand Obama is just a Black Copy of Hillary Clinton. They are both Liberal Lawyers.

I find it funny to see what words you capitalize and what ones you don't. It provides some good insight into what you think is important.

Who are these 'ultra liberals' you are talking about? What decisions has the court made in recent years that you think represent something 'ultra liberal' and what do you think would change with another Clarance Thomas on the bench?

Not that it likely matters anyway. McCain has the deck heavily stacked against him to begin with, and even if he didn't I don't view him as a particularly powerful candidate. He's just not very inspiring. When people talk about voting for Democratic candidates, they are excited to do it. Most people I know who are voting for McCain are doing so because they don't have anyone else to vote for. Shades of John Kerry to be sure.
