From McDonald's website

Beef Patty: 100% pure USDA inspected beef; no additives, no fillers, no extenders.

this includes the quarter pounder.

but the website doesnt say what % of that is lean beef and what % is fat

What they aren't telling you is what part of the cow actually goes into Mickey D's hamburgers.

cow?

Unless you know of some other animal that yields "beef."

Thanks, Captain Obvious . What I meant is, do you necessarily know exactly what part of the cow they're grinding up and serving to you? For all you know, it's the odds and ends that they can't sell in stores. ::shrug::

I like how it just says "USDA Inspected". That means next to nothing. That could mean "the USDA inspected it - and graded it unfit for human consumption, but we're selling it anyway!"

Yeah. Protein worms.

The company name is 100% Pure Beef, IIRC.

What are these "protein worms" you speak of?

Great, now the next time I eat at Taco Bell, I'm going to wonder if someone slipped some of the "Not fit for human consumption" meat into my tacos.

That is an old and totally untrue urban legend. It is disputed on Snopes.

Here it is from the official USDA website - "Each USDA beef quality grade is a measure of a distinct level of quality -- and it takes eight grades to span the range. They are USDA Prime, Choice, Select, Standard, Commercial, Utility, Cutter, and Canner. "

I worked at a McDs for several years. Knew the management and owners very well.

To be honest, it's the best beef in the industry. May not taste like it when a sandwich is put together, but it is. They have (accurate as of a few years ago) always used 100% beef and it's very lean. It's 3-7% fat, which until the last few years, was hard to beat at many grocery stores.

The three lower grades -- USDA Utility, Cutter, and Canner -- are seldom, if ever, sold in stores but are used instead to make ground beef and other meat items such as frankfurters.

that makes me feel ALOT better. NOT

btw.. that comes directly from the USDA site.

The best beef in the industry......served in the crappiest manner possible. I'll take Wendy's or Jack In The Crack over them.
