I feel the same way about both. Thank god I have Whataburger here in Texas. Now, if I want to have awesome burgers then I have my go to places that aren't chains. However, based on the choices mentioned I'd have to pick None of the above.
When we go down to Texas to see the grand daughter (and her parents ) I tell my wife we have to go to Whataburger. I wish we could get them in Michigan.

I have had the Burger King breakfasts and while okay, I prefer the Bacon Egg & Cheese Biscuits at McDonalds

Woopers use to be great, not so much anymore. As others have said it varies too much between restuarants. I occasionally get a Double quarter pounder (no fries.) back in my reckless days I use to get the meal and put the fires on the double quarter pounder, damn thats goooood.

I got 2 chicken specialty sandwiches at McD. First was comparable to $12 Applebee but repeat was "assembled" not made and was disappointing.
I got a queso Chix at W and it was a sodden mess thrown in a box.
Haven't been to BK after sick 3 times over 4 decades.
5 Guys last Sat and 2 doubles, 2 drinks, med fry 23 with 3 tip.
I want to bitch but it was ethereal and I think about the experiance daily.

You tip at Five Guys? Interesting.

Anyway, the money per item is much more, but you have to look at the big picture. $23 for 2 people (for better food) isn't bad.

And that is the SOLE factor explaining the rise of fast food.

Well these franchises will be in more abundance and more successful than a random mom & pop shop that nobody really knows anything about unless they've already been there or heard via word of mouth.

I don't like the burgers at either franchise really, but I enjoy McNuggets and I love hash browns & mcmuffins.

Hash browns are good. Anything with egg in is crap though. What the fuck do they do to the eggs? I know that they are supposed to be real eggs so how (and why) do they make them look like they are made from plastic?

close your eyes when you eat them and you won't have to see the weird plastic look.

But they don't taste or feel like a fried egg either!

This is a fried egg!
Yes, also, their burgers don't taste like beef, and their chicken doesn't taste like a chicken, and their orange juice tastes like it has more sugar than juice in it.

Actual real fried eggs are indeed quite a step up. But, if we ignore the entire universe of food and strictly compare McDonalds to Burger King, I will take the McDonalds Egg every time.

I always like my eggs over medium, and I fry only in bacon grease or butter, I suspect mcdonald uses shaped forms and also veggie oil .... molding the shape and texture, and also not browning correctly like butter.

It's annoying though. They are starting with the exact same product (an egg) and frying it.

It takes a lot of effort to cock up the results as much as they do!

I just wanted to make sure we were all talking about the same thing given that people seem to actually like mcdonalds breakfasts.

They're 'muricans, they'll eat whatever they don't have to cook themselves.

I'm just taking the piss.

That egg does look like the ones I'm having for breakfast tomorrow and they will indeed be delicious but probably have a bit more black pepper on them.

I prefer McDonald's because they're unapologetic about how processed and unhealthy the food is. It's not pretending to be gourmet, and honestly, a double cheeseburger is pretty damn good. It doesn't taste like a real burger, but it doesn't have to. It tastes like McDonald's food and that's okay. McDonald's is the junk food purists choice.

Also don't trust Burger King cause they pump that weird Burger King smell around the store.
