I've read all the material and there is nothing to stop you from switching to another LD carrier whenever you so desire.

Ranger X,

Yes, that would be fairly illegal.

After you talk to the MCI rep, they transfer you to a 3rd party and they ask you questions like: Are you authorized to make this change on this line and your birthday.

I wouldn't think that it's worth $150 unless you have the explicit consent of the person who's line it is.

Why is it illegal? I think we have right to switch our lines at any time we want since there is no committment. And of course we can switch back to get the deal AGAIN because we've just decide to use MCI again. Can they refuse the customers to sign up? I don't think so.
Anyway, I'm going to switch my phone line to ATT as soon as I receive my GC, and switch back to MCI to get this deal again. If they don't let me, I will just stay with ATT since they're giving me $80 credits for long distance calls. Wouldn't hurt for trying

Stso,

I referred to Ranger X's question about it being ok to switch his roomates line, not switch your own line.

I signed up on the internet -- anyone done it that way (that was what I read on Techbarg's or somewhere like that). I have not received a confirmation call yet so maybe I should call them ?

I signed up for this deal on Thanksgiving via the telephone. About 8 days later the gift certificate came. I went to Amazon and bought a Maxtor 40GB 7,200 rpm drive for $189. After the $150 discount and free shipping, my final cost was $42, which even included Washington taxes. This is the best deal I have ever gotten. All that being said, for people who make lots of in-state long distance calls, your rates might be higher than your current plan.

Oops, that's what I get for blatantly ripping a post from another site. Go the link below and look for the MCI deal:

Anyone: I signed up about 5 days ago and got a business-size envelope from MCI today containing one long page with two phone cards attached but no mention of the GC (and no GC). Panicked, I called MCI, where I was told the GC would "probably" be coming in a separate envelope. Is this true? Can anyone confirm?

I would hate to miss the free shipping deal while waiting for the GC to show up...

you probably got signed up with residential like most people and will not get the GC. The phone number for mci that has been floating around websites is wrong. There is a different number for the small business sign up. if i were you, i'd look for that number or get transfered over and have them switch you over to small biz... that would also mean you'll have to wait another week to get the GC. Good luck

I called to sign up by the phone number posted in this thread and got through the whole process without a hitch.

Have been confirmed about using my lastname as my business name when I talked with 3rd party to verify the request.

ps. when you do it on the phone, it won't hurt to ask to make sure it'll be for business. (MCI CSR doesn't seem to care whether your phone number is listed as small business or not.)

Dizway,

My "welcome letter" does indicate that I am signed up as a MCI Small Business Plan (and I was careful to speak to that department when I signed up). However, the CS rep I spoke with tonight really sounded completely unsure of herself, which didn't do much to build my confidence. At one point she suggested I just needed to enter the MCI promotion code (0761) somewhere on Amazon's site to get the gift certificate. Hoo-boy.

My question still stands: for those of you who received your Amazon GC already, did it come in some kind of separate welcome pack, or was it in a single envelope with your phone cards also?

What if we just signed up with the website promotion page.... IS everyone calling? Anyone get the deal by just filling out the webpage that mentions this promotion??? Now I feel like I need to call in to get in on this before MCI gets put out of business by you people

Btw, there's a level of hell (Dante) for you people that try to do this twice. Happy trails

I can't speak for everyone, but my GC came on the same page as my welcome letter and calling cards. The GC number was at the bottom, hidden in text. Very easy to overlook.

Especially if you're looking for an ornate, fancy, parchment-like GC as was the Volvo test drive Orvis CG.

Would that be the "00" circle of hell?

Or maybe Jingle Hell? Ho Ho Ho, $300 off a nice Christmas gift?

I just received my Promo GC code in the same envelope as my temporary phone card. Unfortunately they spelled my business name incorrectly.

It was pretty fast, though. I received it today, Monday, and I called them Thursday or Friday!

Tomorrow I may try to switch the line at my other office. I'll let you know how it goes.

P.S. The check to reimburse me for the hurt AT&T will put on me for leaving them was for only $3!! I guess AT&T doesn't love me!

Well if I was to get consent from my roommate, would that be okay? How will MCI know? I'm sure he wouldn't mind because we have a no-name LD carrier right now and frankly, I want to switch to someplace more reputable.

I double-checked my MCI "welcome letter"---no hidden text re/ Gift certificate anywhere. Just a $10 check to transfer my long distance service. Called MCI back, second time tonight. Got a woman who talked fast and answered questions as if she had (obviously) talked to 50 people with the exact same problem in the last hour. She insists that some of these gift certificates are being sent in separate envelopes, not along with the phone cards . She emphatically stated that this "envelope #2" will arrive 3-5 days after the first envelope.

I saw a bunch of unhappy posts on another forum tonight from other individuals who didn't get their GC in the initial mailing either. Perhaps MCI ran out of Amamzon codes and had to scramble to get some more.

Did I forget to say how pissed I'm going to be if I miss the free shipping deal at Amazon? Was going to order a $600 lawn vacuum with the GC, shipping normally almost $100 on this thing...

They spelled my name wrong as well... No gift certificate code printed on the welcome letter either.
