I signed up and was verified a week and a half ago but still no Gift certificate or anything in the mail from MCI. I checked as soon as I was verified and I was switched over. Should I call them or are others waiting this long to get the GC? I'm wondering if its just that they are overwhelmed right now with all the calls.

Think about it. You gave him your old code, which isn't good anymore. But let's suppose someone else tries to use this exact code (after all, you released it to the public at large.) Amazon and MCI might begin wondering about the legitimacy of your original order if someone else tries it. Maybe I am being paranoid, but I think this gentleman requesting used codes is up to no good, which runs counter to Anandtech rules and might be against the law.

okay im sorry if i offened anyone by requesting for your old codes. i'm simply comparing and trying to see similarities. im in college i'm not a super computer hacker. i think you're being way to parnoid. look i used my coupon too. dont you think that my coupon would be affected as well?

only a handful of people have been helpful enough to send me their old code.

According to their website, this deal will be going on until 12/31/00. Unfortunately, my phone is under my roommate's name so I won't be able to change. Does anyone know what they ask? (i.e. for verification, like mother's maiden name, SS#, Driver's License, etc?). I can ask my roommate, who is out of the country, and maybe he'll allow me to switch.

They asked me my birthday, but I have no idea what they compared my answer to. If you're sure your roomate doesn't care, just call MCI and give it a try.

The worst they can do to you is send a small troop of jack-booted federal FCC thugs to barge into your apartment in the middle of the night and haul your felonious ass off to Leavenworth for the remainder of your life. It's worth the risk. Just watchout in the shower.


BTW I just redeemed my second gc, with the bonus $50 gc. Am I allowed to say that?

Messed up. I can't for the life of me get MCI to give me the Amazon certificate. I signed up online about a week and a half ago which was apparently a HUGE mistake... So I called them up today and ask about the amazon certificate and the guy tells me that I won't be getting it probably because my name didn't match up with a name in the mailing database that was used to send out this promotion... so I'm like.. well the website said I'd get it.. and he said he'd check but he didn't think it would be coming... So... WTF?! I switched and I get nothing?

So I called up again and got a different CSR.. who asked for my promotion code... which luckily was posted... after I gave that to her she said my account wasn't flagged to get the promotion but that she'd ask the promotions department to look into it and see what went wrong... Looks doubtful at best.. MCI is suck. About as consistent as buy.com and the Hitachi deal... which I got the short end of too.

Sounds like you goofed and gave them a different address than the one that the phone is installed at?

What's the problem? Did you make a mistake? Did you do it intentionally? Sounds like a lot of the people that did this have gotten their promotional certificate. I did.

I say... MCI rocks. This is one of the best deals to come along in a while.

A quick question: Has anyone here receive their GC in a latter mailing after the intial envelope containing the calling cards and welcome letter arrived? Just got mine today and searched high and low for the GC in the envelope but came up with zilch.

i called and signed up on saturday i believe and they told me i would get the gc in a seperate package a few days after the first package. if you don't get it in a few days, i would call up again.

I posted earlier in this link about getting an envelope without a gift certificate in it. In my last conversation with a CSR a week ago, she repeatedly reassured my that the GC would come in a SEPARATE envelope. So here I am a week later---having just missed the free shipping at Amazon---and still no GC. Judging from all the people who have posted that they received only ONE envelope and it included the GC, I have a sinking feeling that we're getting yanked around by MCI on this one.

Just in case anyone is wondering, it came with everything, the GC was actually folded to the back, so it took me a second of sheer terror of looking it over before I found it. Also, I made the call to MCI last Sunday, so it really does come quickly. Anyway, thank you thank you thank you to whoever originally posted this! AWESOME DEAL!!!

sorry guys.... i just got mine today and it was all in one envelope too...

it was about 1 week...

it is only one page that i received with all the info.. it has 4 folds on it.. the third fold down from the top contained 2 hard plastic phone cards and right under them on the 4th fold was all the info about the MCI GC...

check and see how yours looks...

it looks like we got screwed out of our GC. Damn, I even asked the customer service rep before i hung up if the amazon.com GC was going to be included and he said yes. It looks like I will have to place a call tonight to MCI and see i can still wrangle me one of those puppies, for I would hate to miss out on a deal like this.

Same as scrubman -- got mine today with the calling cards on a single page with the cards attached. Does not expire untol March 2001, so I think I can wait for a free shipping promotion (unless I decide to spend it in electronics to combine it with the 50 off 200). There is always the chance there will be some hot after Christmas sales at Amazon like other retailers.

I signed up on November 30th and have not recieved one thing in the mail from MCI yet. I called them today and they said to give it another couple days and if I didn't get anything they would resend. Its hard to believe some people are getting these in 4-5 days. Maybe they live closer to where they send these out.

Don't worry, you'll probably get in tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. It took them 2 weeks to send me mine, and then another week and a half to send the correct welcome package (they 'accidently' signed me up for Residential LD after I explicitly said Small Business about 34 times.

I didn't get my Amazon GC either. I ordered on Thanksgiving and got my welcome packet (without GC) last Friday. I called MCI and they are apparently sending me a new GC which should be here tomorrow or Wed.

It seems like it might be the signing up online that kills it. They actually switched me over on December 5th to their plan and I did receive the welcome kit ... with two calling cards... and no amazon coupon in sight.. I checked about 10 times already. It's not there and the service rep told me the same. I have no doubt people are getting this. My only beef is that MCI is intentionally disregarding the amazon gift certificate online signups at least lately... If you signed up online.. you should probably call one of the many numbers posted. I had a friendlier CSR with 1-800-444-2222.


Forgot to mention that you should call up either way to get a free $5 check to cover the cost of switching if you haven't received that already.
