This thread is actually kinda funny to read and see how liberals think vs conservatives. In recent months there has been much to talk about as far as conservatives doing illegal and immoral things. Then you see many hardcore conservatives and even some moderate conservatives defending whatever wrong thing their politician did as if it was ok.

Now we have a liberal do something wrong and illegal, and even one of the MOST liberal people on this board, dmcowen, doesn't defend her. Why? It would appear that liberals understand the concept of right and wrong even when their own kind do something wrong. Conservative's interpretation of right and wrong appears to be conditional on if they're doing it or if someone they don't agree with is doing it.

Edit: Accidentally said dmcowen was conservative, talk about a typo!

1- Dave is one of the most conservative people here?

2- Have you not noticed Steeplerot?

You can find all the data you want to justify anything if you pull specific instances out of context.

I love how steeplerot cries racism at every opportunity.

She was given verbal warnings before the cop grabbed her. What would you have done in the cops place? Just let her go through?

You do SO MUCH complaining, but never offer a solution. Its people like you who help ruin this country because all you do is 'cry wolf' but never do anything about it. Ya, no sh!t there is racism in this country, but at least think with a half-opened mind and assume for ONCE in your life that it is NOT racism every time when a person of color is involved (black, hispanic or otherwise).

I think that Dave would take offense at being labeled conservative.

Steeplerot is defending her (or at least attacking the circumstances). The lady is crying racism, yet she is the one trying to exploit her position of color, sex and power

I'm as big a liberal as they come - and if the truth is in the Cop's corner - the Congresswomen needs to resign. It is that simple.

Cons are just a bunch of hypocrites about everything. Trying to get moral consistency out of them is an impossible task.

This is just another case of a politicain with a supersize ego that doesn't think the rules they've sworn to protect and uphold apply to them. She asked for it and now she's going to get it.

Unfortunately, I doubt she's going to "get" anything.

Why endless media hype and condemning of her? duh:

much ado about nothing, just more racism.

Please, not everybody is out to hunt blacks and not everybody is a liberal hating misogynist. The idiot broke the rules, the cop confronted her, as is his job, and she acted like a complete moron and slugged an officer of the law.

Granted, some officers are power tripping knuckle draggers, but this case seems pretty clear cut. You making excuses for this idiot only undermines your argument, it highlights blind faith in somebody who desperate for a CYA position.

If you have any evidence of anything but what it so obviously appears to be, please present it, otherwise, you should tone down the victimization accusations before you dig yourself a hole that you can't get out of once this moron is arrested and found guilty.

I live in Atlanta Georgia, it seems that "race card" is played more here than playing cards are played in Vegas. Embarrassing to say that I am a Georgia native

How can you say that? There aren't more than a few conservatives here; most of the more prominent ones have been banished. And if "liberals understand the concept of right and wrong", please explain Al Sharpton. Has he ever apologized for his lies?

And despite the fact that Dave blames every little thing on Republicans, he's certainly not the most liberal person here. Just ask him about guns, or the Supreme Court's New London decision.

Actually, though, her "constituents" will probably pay ofr her defense. Maybe Isaac Hayes, Danny Glover, and Harry Belafonte Will donate.

On a side note, it appears her own party doesn't even support her. How can she legitimately represent her disctrict when she's hated by her own party?

I heard a couple of clips of an interview done by Wolf Blitzer on CNN and she is way out there. She just got done saying that this was all about racial profiling and racism, and then a minute later Wolf asked her about that and she completely denied saying it. She even had the audacity to accuse Wolf of making it up and told him he could just replay the tape. Crazy she is, says Yoda.

I hope she gets convicted on something.

I hate it when people play the race card when it has nothing to do with the issue. There are people out there who really do get discriminated against - hell, Mckinney probably has - but when they use it so haphazardly, they dimish its seriousness (it's just another Boy Who Cried Wolf scenario).

I am all for term limits. I do not think "life long" terms are beneficial no matter Democrat or Republican....

We have term limits - they're called elections. Unfortunately, voters of both parties seem intent on returning the same corrupt tools to office. Delay is as embarrassing as McKinney is for the other side of the aisle.

Grand Jury to Hear McKinney Run-In Case

Capitol Police Chief: No racism behind confrontation with congresswoman

WASHINGTON Apr 5, 2006 (AP)? A federal grand jury will soon begin hearing evidence about Rep. Cynthia McKinney's run-in with a Capitol Police officer, a lawyer familiar with the case said late Wednesday.

The lawyer, who declined to be identified because of grand jury secrecy, confirmed that federal prosecutors had agreed to get involved in the case in which a black lawmaker is accused of striking a white officer after he tried to stop her from entering a House office building without going through a security checkpoint.

U.S. Capitol Police Chief Terrance Gainer said McKinney turned the officer's failure to recognize her into a criminal matter when she failed to stop at his request, and then struck him.

"He reached out and grabbed her and she turned around and hit him," Gainer said on CNN. "Even the high and the haughty should be able to stop and say, 'I'm a congressman' and then everybody moves on."

"This is not about personality," added House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill. "It's not about racial profiling. It's about making this place safer."

For her part, McKinney wasn't backing down from the argument. She charged anew that racism is behind what she said is a pattern of difficulty in clearing Hill security checkpoints.

"This has become much ado about hairdo," she said Wednesday on CBS' "The Early Show." McKinney, a Georgia Democrat, recently dropped her trademark cornrows in favor of a curly brown afro.

The police aren't the ones who are racist, one Republican said.

"Cynthia McKinney is a racist," Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Texas, said on Fox News Channel's "Fox and Friends," a day after abandoning his reelection bid under a cloud of ethics charges. "She has a long history of racism. Everything is racism with her. This is incredible arrogance that sometimes hits these members of Congress, but especially Cynthia McKinney."

Last Wednesday's incident in a House office building has caused a commotion on Capitol Hill, where security in the era of terrorist threat is tighter than ever and where authorities had to order an evacuation just Monday because of a power outage.

Capitol Police have turned the case over to U.S. Attorney Kenneth Wainstein, who must decide whether to clear the way for any charges against McKinney. An official in his office said no announcement was expected Wednesday.

McKinney has garnered little support among fellow Democrats in her feud with the Capitol police. No one in her party chose to join her at a news conference last Friday to discuss the situation.

Republicans, meanwhile, presented a resolution commending Capitol police for professionalism toward members of Congress and visitors even though they "endure physical and verbal assaults in some extreme cases."

"I don't think it's fair to attack the Capitol Police and I think it's time that we show our support for them," said Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., a sponsor of the measure. Ignoring a police officer's order to stop, or hitting one, "is never OK," McHenry said.

Some GOP members have said the McKinney incident serves to underscore Democratic insensitivity to security concerns.

Gainer said that racism, however, was not a factor.

"I've seen our officers stop white members and black members, Latinos, male and females," he told CNN. "It's not an issue about what your race or gender is. It's an issue about making sure people who come into our building are recognized if they're not going through the magnetometer, and this officer at that moment didn't recognize her."

"It would have been real easy, as most members of Congress do, to say here's who I am or do you know who I am?" Gainer added.

Police also have said that McKinney was failing to wear a pin that lawmakers are asked to display when entering Capitol facilities.

But she said Wednesday: "Face recognition is the issue ?. The pin doesn't have my name on it and it doesn't have my picture on it, and so security should not be based on a pin ? People are focused on my hairdo."

"Something that perhaps the average American just doesn't understand is that there is a heightened sense of a lack of appropriateness being there for members who are elected who happen to be of color," McKinney said, "and until this issue is addressed by the American public in a very substantive way, it won't be the last time."

Of course the GOP is going to make political hay out of this. That's to be expected. But Tom DeLay acting out of some sort of moral superiority? What a fvcking douchebag!

BTW, The Daily Show's segment on her was pretty good!

So She slapped a police officer. That is Assault of a police officer. Anyone that does this is a career criminal. The only crime is that she was not arrested at the time of the crime because of public opinion and political corectness.

She was a black, female, showing an attitude and with no visible ID.
She had every right to slap him.

He would not bow down and kiss her highness's feet
