Yep, my friend is losing her job. She was in charge of two of the most successful stores in the nation. She got a job offer from Belk, but it's a 20% pay cut.

Well, just got back from my local S&K. Guys told me that I was "safe" since my orders had already been placed and my June 20 date was within the cutoff they got from corporate. This made me feel a little better, but how can I guarantee that the store will still be there alive and well in a month?

I then called the store in Charleston (I have guys getting tuxes in Raleigh, Charlotte, and Charleston) and the person there couldn't even guarantee me that they'd still have the tuxes ready. That made me feel like total crap and very uneasy about the whole thing, so I went over to Mens Warehouse.

They don't have the color I need -- the closest thing they have is turd brown. Man, pffff!

I called my store and asked as well. I'm safe (1 week away!). He said the people who might have problems are weddings in August/September.

He also told me, if I still feel uncomfortable, that they have a store they are recommending people to that would make the transition for us quick and simple.

I just talked with my best man -- he said he only put down a $30 deposit and didn't pay the whole thing. I don't know about the others yet. I'm just gonna break from them totally -- I just don't trust a company that is closing shop to "be there" for me on my wedding day.

Another of my groomsmen just contacted me and said let's just go buy some linen suits and wear sandals (that was his vote all along ).

Since it's just gonna be four of us as the main group (groom + three groomsmen), I think that's doable -- and since we're all going to be together next weekend for my "bachelor weekend", it'd be pretty simple to accomplish. I don't really care if the father of the bride and ring bearer are matching us (they were gonna match with S&K). Don't know how the fiance or mother-in-law would feel about them not matching though.

can you find another tux place that can deliver within your time frame? even with paying some kind of premium? it might be worth it to cancel at s&k and pay more at another place. that would be better than finding out you are screwed on the night before the wedding.

Yes, Men's Warehouse has a two week cutoff, so we've still got another two weeks to decide before the cutoff to get measurements sent in.

I booked a reception hall (all inclusive gig) last January for this July. Found out the went out of business in March. Thankfully we found another place, but now apparently we get the joy of getting it up the ass waiting for our deposit back in bankruptcy proceedings!

I guess anyone getting married these days needs to take into account the financial health of the companies they deal with, otherwise their deposits vanish into thin air.

Well, it's gonna be an outside garden wedding anyway, so sandals aren't out of the question -- although my future mother-in-law told me today that guys' feet aren't pretty to look at

Crisis averted! I got all of my guys to pick up tan suits from Belk yesterday for $119 (jacket $79.99, pants $39.99 -- they had a Memorial Day sale going on). They match the color of what we were getting from S&K. We'll just wear brown shoes and I'm going to provide ties for the guys. Every guy has a white dress shirt, so we're good to go.
