Why does it need to be defended? It's a fucking arithmetic problem.

Are you bleeding hearts now anti-arithmetic because it can be used to quantify things which are scary and might hurt someone?

Being against using things which are scary and might hurt someone in 3rd grade arithmetic problems would be the accurate and obvious interpretation, but I guess acknowledging that instead wouldn't be very convenient to you, since you've already made yourself look like an ass clown.

Just more de-assimilation from Americans with generational roots in this country. It's becoming a real problem.

Nothing but Conservative white trash. It's Georgia...what do you expect?

I'd wager the teacher involved is not a "Conservative" but a misguided liberal who is pushing this "cross-curricular activity" without really thinking it through appropriately.

Kind of like when Geometry teachers and Art teachers link up to create projects in high-school. Except in the later case no one is really that offended by geometric terms and scenarios being used in a art class.

Actually, the questions said nothing about the race of the person. Slaves are not inherently of a certain race. Many races have been slaves in history. What is funny to me is that the people that automatically assume this is a racial issue are the ones that are prejudiced because they immediately assume the slave is of a certain race.

With that said, this is a pretty bad question to give to children

Whether the Teacher is "Liberal" or not is moot. I suspect though, that the Teacher(s) in question were not intentionally being Racist, but were indeed being stupid in an attempt to make this integration.

A perfectly reasonable post, if you entirely ignore the history of slavery in the United States and the fact that these questions were explicitly created as part of a Black Heritage Month curriculum...

yes many races have been slaves. It just so happens to be done with US's black history month. So its not hard to figure out what race they are talking about.

Not to mention the specific history of Gwinnett, GA being built around slave worked cotton plantations.

That's a ridiculous claim.

Don't give a certain member here I've called 'the biggest apologist' competition.

That doesn't mean you have to stake out some kind of "anti-bleeding heart" position, where you have to declare everything acceptable just to stick it to the folks who may be easily offended.

Sometimes it's not being politically correct to declare something in poor taste, it's just being normal.

Indeed. Perhaps, in the interest of teaching kids the perils of sexual predators, Math problems should be about Chester the Molester and the Childs classmates? :whiste:

Hmmm, are you reading a different article than the OP posted? I see no mention of black history month in the actual article, which is in February anyway.

Again, Black History Month is in Feb.

My bad, the only mention of Black Heritage Month was in the OP, not the linked article.
Ergo, you need only ignore the history of slavery in the United States in general and Georgia's history in particular to make your point.

But if you are going to use historic clues to prove an agenda, then we must take into account the name "Frederick" that was used. This would not be a black name in the slavery days.

I know Alabama is the pits, but I had no idea it was this bad in Georgia. Of course this is one teacher, so it isn't fair to generalize, but I am tempted to do so. This is really unbelievable. I hope that no black kids got that homework assignment and I hope the teacher is fired.

In other news, California passed a law requiring including the contributions in history from gays and transgender people in public education. Good for us.

Frederick Douglass would disagree with you.

He is obviously American Indian.

Wow, I thought it was obvious I was not being serious. That picture is obviously of a black man. I cannot say I have ever seen an American Indian with an afro and goatee.
